MMCRU – MMCRU High School Pods
By MMCRU Haydn Aduddell
As part of the 2023 renovation of the MMCRU High School, several new social and working spaces have been installed throughout the school’s north hallway. They are open spaces separate from any classroom. There are a few similar installations near the school’s south entrance as well. These new ‘pods,’ as they are commonly called, contain many of the standards of a typical living space: tables, couches or series of chairs, electrical outlets, and controllable lighting. The tables and seats come in many different shapes and sizes, with some chairs reclining or rolling on wheels, and tables ranging from small, personal desks to large, circular tables for groups. The new ‘pods’ have proven to be successful in providing a comfortable place to work or socialize for students working on group projects, staying before or after school, or who have a free period during the school day. When I asked Brielle Lux what she thought about this space, she replied, “It is a great, quiet place to focus and learn.”
