Marcus Community Celebrates Fire Prevention with MMCRU Students

By Dallas Carey
Last week, the community of Marcus came together to celebrate Fire Prevention Week, a time dedicated to raising awareness about fire safety and preparedness. The highlight of the week was an interactive program led by our dedicated volunteer firefighters, who have been serving Marcus for generations.
For many years, local kindergarten classrooms have had the unique opportunity to ride on a fire truck and tour the fire station. That tradition continued this year, delighting young students as they experienced firsthand the equipment and tools that keep their community safe. Following the station tour, firefighters visited the elementary school, showcasing essential firefighting tools, including the jaws of life, fire extinguishers, and more.

The firefighters, both men and women, took time to engage with the children, answering their curious questions and sharing insights about fire safety. As part of their presentation, the firefighters assigned homework aimed at instilling important fire safety habits. Students were encouraged to go home and remind their parents that it’s time to change the smoke detector batteries, as well as to ensure their family has a meeting space outside their home in case of a fire emergency.
This initiative not only educates children about fire safety but also fosters a sense of community and responsibility. “We are incredibly thankful for our firefighters in Marcus,” said a local parent. “Their commitment to training, educating, and rescuing us is invaluable.”
As Fire Prevention Week has once again come to a close, this serves as a reminder for everyone in the community: take a moment to change your smoke detector batteries, plan your family’s escape routes, and establish a meeting point outside your home. Let’s ensure that our families are prepared and safe!
