Personal Mention
Anything after Saturday of last week is in this week’s paper. Sunday there was something after church at Faith Lutheran that happened—I fell outside as I was leaving, I missed the last step and fell on my face on the sidewalk. Something had happened to my shoulder. Jerry Hill kept it stable. Judy Means came with wet paper towels and a waste basket, Ila came with an umbrella that kept the bright sun from my face. I don’t know who else was there—but thank all of you who helped.
I spent 5 hours in emergency, was patched up and sent home with a left fractured shoulder, a right wrist that doesn’t work, and decided not a broken nose, and a banged up face. If there was a beauty contest for women my age, I would not be able to enter because of all my battle scars.
I suppose a woman in Florida, 20 years younger with the same injuries was able to do gardening and therefore set the standard for staying or patched up and sent home. I can’t do anything without sitting for more than hour trying to convince myself to withstand the pain of getting up. Yes, I do a lot of crying because of pain that never goes away. I’m not playing my violin for you—it’s the truth.
Thursday I went to Le Mars to see a shoulder doctor and again this Thursday. I am wearing my pajama top under the patch-up job. I just cannot do anything for myself and this is for 6 weeks. When I went to Le Mars, I was given a paper to fil out for shoulder doctor. I told Zachary that if I sat down, I would be a mess to get back up. We were in front room filling this out where everybody and their friend was sitting waiting for a doctor. An older lady kept looking at me like she couldn’t believe someone would come in their pajamas. It didn’t help when another lady sat down (had her arm in a sling) and was wearing normal clothes. I finally just smiled at the older lady and thought “if she only knew why I had pajamas on.”
I felt sorry for the X-ray girls, I wasn’t a very good “quiet” patient when they moved the arm around for an X-ray. The shoulder doctor’s assistants put a hard plastic section around my waist and above, that took care of the secondary sling that wasn’t doing very good. For those of you that have included me in your thoughts and prayers—thank you.
As if there weren’t enough problems in my household—the microwave had a fire inside of it. Thank goodness Zachary was there when it happened. So, we are without a microwave.
I have had to call Steve in middle of night to get me another cold pack or get lid off medicine bottle. The two in the household are not morning people. Thank you Steve for coming to help me.
While waiting to get out of bed and knowing about the pain—I was tuned into Sioux Falls, Jack Benny (tight with his money!) was on her way to a homeless shelter office to get back a coat that his wife had given Boy Scouts to take to homeless. He didn’t want anyone there to know there was $200 I na hidden pocket. Once there, he had to get in a long line waiting for food or clothes, he still couldn’t find it. At the very bottom, a man was wearing it. Jack made a deal with him that for the coat, he would get the man some donuts. The man a few “second” donuts. The men didn’t know that he didn’t get the best of the deal. This was a Jack Benny Show from the past. It brought back memories of how “tight” Jack was with money! Actually Jack was very generous but his tightness is what made his show!
There is a city council meeting on Monday night (5 o’clock) and a zoo program coming to Marcus Public Library on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
Remember in your thoughts and prayers those families/friends that have lost loved ones to death; have had their lives changed, have health problems some of which are terminal; are still struggling to make ends meet even though they have a job; and help those who desire “wants” are more important than “needs” that prestige isn’t everything and be with those who are still trying to shorten the distance between family/friends to build a bridge instead of a wall. Count your blessings!
Finally, thank you Bethany for typing this up. I really appreciate your help. Bethany has done a lot of running up and down the stairs getting me ice packs, food, ice, drinks and medication. She doesn’t realize how much I appreciate all the help that she’s given me. I do realize that her and Zachary do work outside of the home and appreciate all that they both do for me. Finaly I will close with this quote from John Steinbeck (1902-1968) American author: “Many a trip continues long after movement in time and space have ceased.”
