NOTICE OF VACANCIES
The Cherokee County Board of Supervisors is taking applications for various county board and commission appointments for the 2022 year. Cherokee County appreciates diversity in these appointments and welcomes all applicants at least 18 years of age. Terms and dates of appointments vary. These are unpaid positions. A brief description follows:
Aviation Authority: Five member board to provide guidance and oversee operations of the Cherokee Aviation Authority. Two residents living in the unincorporated territory of Cherokee County are appointed by the Board of Supervisors. Four year term.
Board of Health: Five member board responsible for policy and program direction for public health services offered including environmental health, disease prevention and investigation, health promotion and education, public health nursing, and home care services. Three year term.
Condemnation Compensation Commission: 28 member commission representing realtors, farmers, bankers, auctioneers and city property owners to be available to the chief judge of the judicial district to assess damages to property taken by eminent domain. One year term.
Civil Service Commission: Three member commission created and governed by Iowa Code Chapter 341A with duties pertaining to Civil Service for Deputy County Sheriffs. Six year term.
Conservation Board: Five member board to provide guidance and oversee operations of County Conservation Department. Five year term.
Township Officers where the Cherokee County Board of Supervisors have been granted the authority to make appointments by the electorate of the township. Four year terms to be appointed include: Township Clerk in Afton, Cedar, Cherokee, Liberty, Pilot, Willow and Township Trustees in Afton, Cedar, Cherokee, Diamond, Liberty, Sheridan, Silver, Spring, Willow.
Veterans Affairs Commission: Members of the five person Veterans Affairs Commission must be veterans, preferably of different wars. The commission is responsible for approving payments for relief provided to veterans by office staff. Office staff is supervised by the commission. Meetings are held monthly. Three year term.
This list is not all inclusive. The Board of Supervisors is always looking for people interested in serving their community.

Marcus City Council Meeting
Regular Meeting of the City Council was held November 8th, 2021 at 5:00 pm with Mayor Hansen presiding. Council members present: Ebert, Jenness, Klassen. Later joined by Enneking. Absent: Frangione. Also, present: Steven Schuetz, Elaine Rassel, Steve Schmillen, Doug Dreckman, Joe Frangione, Ben Erdman, Brian Flikeid
Pledge of Allegiance.
Motion by Klassen, seconded by Ebert to approve agenda, minutes, bills, and clerk’s report. Ayes: Ebert, Jenness, Klassen. Nayes: none. Motion carried.
Joe Frangione asked the Council to consider supporting his petition to request IDOT to install a stoplight at the corner of HWY 143 & HWY 3. Mayor Hansen responded that he reached out to the IDOT before this meeting. The IDOT plans to extend the turn lane from the East once they can get contractors to bid the job.
Enneking arrived 5:02pm
Ben Erdman asked the Council to make his camping site permanent out in the Business Park. The Council agreed to a five-year extension to the current Ordinance exemption. This Ordinance will be voted on at the December meeting.
Motion by Klassen, seconded by Frangione to approve Res 21-43, “A Resolution Setting Salaries for Appointed Officers and Employees of the City of Marcus, Iowa.” Ayes: Ebert, Jenness, Enneking, Klassen. Nayes: none. Motion carried.
Motion by Jenness, seconded by Ebert to approve Res 21-44, “A Resolution Transferring Funds.” Ayes: Ebert, Jenness, Enneking, Klassen. Nayes: none. Motion carried.
Motion by Enneking, seconded by Klassen to approve 2022 health insurance rates. Ayes: All, Nayes: none. Motion carried.
Motion by Jenness, seconded by Ebert to approve Tax Abatement Under the Marcus Urban Revitalization Plan for Daniel Rector. Ayes: Ebert, Jenness, Klassen, Enneking. Nayes: none. Motion carried.
Motion by Jenness, seconded by Enneking to approve request by the Powder Players, Inc. Snowmobile Club to mark and maintain a trail system around and into Marcus City limits as long as they post new signs as the old ones are faded. Ayes: All. Nayes: none. Motion carried.
Doug Dreckman told the Council that the well pipe had been pulled and Jensen Well was currently finishing up replacing the old pipe with new stainless-steel pipe.
Motion by Jenness, seconded by Enneking to approve a new sewer pump. Ayes: All. Nayes: none. Motion carried.
Discussion held on the trade for the John Deer mower and a lawn tractor.
Motion by Ebert, seconded by Enneking to approve the purchase of a John Deere lawn tractor on trade with the John Deere mower. Ayes: All. Nayes: none. Motion carried.
Police Chief Flikeid gave the Council his arrest reports for the past month.
Discussion was held by Council that the Public Works Department will be assisting Ten Corp in putting up Christmas lights on businesses the week of Nov. 15th.
Motion by Ebert, seconded by Enneking to adjourn at 6:09 pm. All Ayes. Nayes: none. Motion carried.

Cherokee County Board of Supervisors Meeting
The Cherokee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 with Rick Mongan, Bryan Petersen, Gary Lundquist, Duane Mummert, and Wane Miller present. There were no representatives from the press. Chris White, Sarah Tracy, Kelly Puhrmann and Ryan Kolpin were also in attendance. Unless otherwise indicated, all votes were offered as follows: Ayes – Mongan, Petersen, Mummert, Miller, Lundquist; Nayes – none; Abstentions – none.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Wane Miller, Veteran Affairs Commissioner.
Motion by Mongan, seconded by Mummert to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Motion by Miller, seconded by Petersen to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. Motion carried.
Motion by Mongan, seconded by Mummert to go into closed session per Iowa Code Chapter 21.5(1)(c) “To discuss strategy with counsel in matters that are presently in litigation or where litigation is imminent where its disclosure would be likely to prejudice or disadvantage the position of the governmental body in that litigation.” Roll call vote: Mongan-aye, Petersen-aye, Mummert-aye, Miller-aye, Lundquist-aye. Motion carried and session closed at 9:30 a.m. Regular session resumed at 11:07 a.m. with no action taken as a result of the closed session.
There being no further business, Chairman Lundquist adjourned the meeting at 11:07 a.m.
