Royals Improve to 3-0
The Royals played in Paullina on May 30 against the South O’Brien Wolverines. The Wolverines took an early 3-0 lead, scoring 3 in the bottom of the second inning. MMCRU wasted no time matching the effort by putting 3 on the board in the top of the third. The Royals’ defense held their host to no more runs. Through the game the Royals added a run in the 5th and had a big seventh inning, bringing home 4 more. The guests closed the game with an 8-3 final.
Lucas Braun led hitting with 3 out of 4 hits, coming home twice and an RBI. Junior Cayben Olson threw 3 innings and recording 8 SOs.
Cherokee at Remsen
The Royals’ bats were hot on June 2 in Remsen as they faced the Cherokee Braves. The game lasted just 35 innings. The Royals 11-1 route by the bottom of the third ended the game.
Braun’s 2 out of 3 at bats led the hitters. He scored twice and brought in 3 more. Senior Michael Peterson threw 5 SO in 5 innings pitched.
Another 5-inning Game
Harris-Lake Park came to Marcus due to field construction at their home field on June 4. Royals’ hitters ran the bases in the bottom of the first, scoring 8 while holding H-LP scoreless. The Wolves put up their only run for the night during the 3rd. The Royals went back to their running ways in the bottom of the 4th scoring 5 more, setting the score at 13-1. That proved to be the final.
Gage Johnson was the leading hitter for the Royals. He put himself on base twice out of 3 attempts, scoring 3 runs and bringing home 2. Senior Xander Tentinger threw out 9 batters during his 5 innings pitched.
MMCRU at Holstein
The Thursday June 5 game played against the Ridge View Raptors at Holstein allowed the Royals to stay undefeated at 6-0. The game final was 6-4. The Royals opened the game scoring 4. Ridge View didn’t see home plate until they scored 3 in the 5th. The score sat at 5-3 going into the 6th inning. The Royals added a run in the 6th and the Raptors brought in a final run in the 7th.
Junior Parker Glassmaker’s .500 hitting led the team and scored 2 runs. Senior Mason Grage is credited with an RBI. Junior Eli Schlenger pitched 7 innings with three strikeouts.
The Raptors put 29 hitters in front of Schlenger agains the 19 Royals’ batters. They also out hit the Royals 8 hits to Royals’ 2. Seven Royals got on base being hit by a pitch and 4 walks put more on base.
Akron Hands MMCRU First Loss
The 1 score knot at the end of the first gave promise of a good Friday night game in Akron. The Westerners relentless single run innings, with a 3-run high in the 4th, proved to make it a disappointing outing for the Royals. AW claimed the home win 8-1.
Batters and hits were pretty even for the two teams. AW showed either skill or luck with 7 RBIs against the Royals. The Westerners getting 6 batters on base with a walk certainly gave the host team an advantage. The 5 errors helped the Westerner cause. Royals’ pitcher Cayben Olson pitched 4 and 2 / 3 innings with 5 Ks. Overall the Royals threw 12 Ks against Westerners’ 5.
A Win at Home
The Wednesday night home game at Remsen pitted the Royals against the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Hawks. Once again, the Royals’ bats were alive in the opening inning scoring 1. Play wa quiet on the scoring side until the 4th when the Royals scored another run. And another at the bottom of the 5th putting the score at 3-0. The Hawks got on the board in the top of the 6th with a pair of runs that were matched by a pair of Royals’ runs. The 5-2 score at the end of the 6 ended the game after 7. Royals enjoy a 2-0 record after facing HMS.
Johnson was again the lead hitter for the Royals going 3 out of 4. Two RBIs and a triple came from Johnson. Junior Brandon Dreckman pitched with no stats available.
