Local Army Nurse Corps Officers finally meet at the Army Nurse Corps Association Convention. COL (Ret.) Elizabeth Johnson and LTC (Ret.) Mary Alice Dunn met at the Army Nurse Corps Association Convention Conference 26 – 29 September 2024 in Cary, North Carolina. Elizabeth, the daughter of Verdell and Marian Johnson of Cleghorn, lives near Larrabee. Elizabeth is a 1978 graduate of Meriden-Cleghorn High School. She retired in 2012 after 30 years of Active-Duty service. Mary Alice Dunn, Andover, MN is the daughter of John (Jack) and Alice Dunn (both deceased) of Marcus, Iowa. Mary is a 1970 graduate of Marcus Community High School. She retired in 1995 after 23 years of Active-Duty service. Elizabeth started the conversation with “Are you Mary Dunn of Marcus, Iowa? I used to read about you in the in the Marcus News.” Mary then noticed that Elizabeth’s name tag identified her as being from Cleghorn and the conversation went from there. Both were on active duty at the same time, but never stationed at the same health care facilities, so paths did not cross.
