Uncle Rufus Booth passed away on Wednesday morning. his demise has been looked for during the last 5 days since he had a relapse.
Born to Mr. & Mrs. A.E. Brandt, September 23, a son.
The Meylor Brothers lost 8 sheep from their flock recently. They believe the animals were killed by dogs.
Will Strief, who has been a resident of Marcus for about 5 years, working as a carpenter, left last Monday for Spirit Lake where he expects to relocate.
Miss Nina Londergan left Tuesday evening for Poughkeepsie, New York, where she will enter Glen Eden Siminary.
Elsie, daughter of Rudolph Luchterhandt, was taken to the German Lutheran hospital in Sioux City where she submitted to an operation for appendicitis.
100 Years Ago – 1924
Phil Delaney and Russell Anderson won first price of $3.00 in cash in the contest sponsored by the manager of the Kay Theatre, G.A. Brink. The boys had the best miniature covered wagon. Harold Booth won second prize of $2.00
Miss Cora Loutsch departed last week for Kansas City where she will take nurses training.
Mr. & Mrs. John Williams departed by auto Monday morning for Pasadena, CA where they will spend the winter.
New corn bribs are being erected this week on the John Brady and Mrs. Rosa Ryan farms.
Junior Boss, son of Mr. & Mrs. J.B. Boss was honored guest at a party held in the primary room on Wednesday afternoon, the occasion being his birthday.
Ben and John Snyder were called to LeMars Tuesday on account of the illness of their mother.
95 Years Ago -1929
A gold medal for the member of the county baby beef club showing the best all around membership in 1929 was awarded to Lloyd Thompson.
A.J. Thompson accompanied by Rex Rosburg and Everett Delaney left Tuesday for Leech Lake, Minnesota where they will spend a week pike fishing.
Wednesday of this week the 40th wedding anniversary of Mr. & Mrs. William Petrie was celebrated and also Mr. Petrie’s 67th birthday.
J.W. Nield accompanied by Mrs. Fred Knox, Mary Jean and L.A. Grauer left Saturday for Oklahoma. Mrs. Knox is visiting relatives in Ellsworth, Kansas. Mr. Nield and Mr. Grauer will spend 1o days with Mr. & Mrs. Roy Nield and at the same time attend to business matters.
Miss Helen Delaney, RN who has been employed in a hospital at Battle creek, Michigan, arrived Saturday to visit with her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Ben Delaney.
Mr. & Mrs. William Frangenberg and daughter left Monday by auto for Joliet, Illinois where they will visit with their daughter Sister Sophia. They will also visit with friends in Streeter and Lenore before returning home.
Lawrence Brady, who suffered a severly lacerated scalp last week in an accident is reported improving.
Rev. Hansen left yesterday for West Branch, Iowa where he will preach at a special meeting which is being held the last four days in the week.

Reasealing of corn in Amherst and Marcus townships is getting under way, according to Fred Mossman who is the sealer for these townships.
Six Seniors students from the Holy Name high school attended the Duncan Convention at Fort Dodge Sunday. They were Katherine Rassel, Margie Kramer, Joyce Kinney, Jack Greff, Fred Zangger and Garland Geister.
John Barry, Joe Broblek, Franklin Prunty, A.J. Lenth, A.C. Stanbrough, Merle Weicht and Roy Woodal are the juniors from Marcus that were drawn for the November term of court.
Mr. and Mrs. John Peterson are the proud parents of a daughter born Saturday, October 7.
A crew of 25 men form the local CCC Camp started work to establish a Soil Conservation demonstration on the Glenn Curtis farm southwest of Cherokee. The crew is under the supervision of Francis Meyer senior foreman of laborers.
Eleanor Reed of Sioux City visited over the weekend in the home of her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Carl Reed.
A series of teas are being held through the country by the various township women in Farm Bureau work. On Thursday, October 12, Marcus, Amherst and Tilden women will meet in the basement of the Methodist church.

The new Lutheran congregation met Sunday evening to vote on a suitable name for their church. The name selected was Peace. The new congregation was formerly a part of Trinity Lutheran Church.
A son was born Sunday to Mr. & Mrs. Leonard Harms.
Mrs. Alfred Chinn was honored on Friday evening at a belated birthday party when a number of relatives an dfriends gathered to spend an evening of pinochle.
Mr. Lou McDaniel was pleasantly surprised Thursday evening when he came home from work to find Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Birch and family and Mr. and Mrs. Pat Mulvaney and Jimmy who came to help celebrate his 60th birthday anniversary.
Mr. & Mr.s Perry Nelson have moved to Waterloo where Mr. Nelson has accepted a position as Display Manager in the Waterloo Hardware.

Sunday, October 9, the Sacred Heart Court No 405 of the Women’s Catholic Order of Foresters celebrated its Golden Jubilee.
Funeral services were held Tuesday for Frank Fuhrmann 66, who passed away Sunday at his home in Cleghorn.
Military services were held Tuesday afternoon in Marcus for Ray Jacobs 44 of Montrose, SD.
On Thursday afternoon, October 6 Trinity Ladies Aid held their annual Guest Day and also celebrated their 41st anniversary.
Jeffery James, the week old son of Mr. & Mrs. Danny Muehl of Remsen, passed away Wednesday morning in the Sacred Heart Hospital in LeMars.

The new elementary school building of the Marcus Independent school district will be formally dedicated at a program and ceremony Friday afternoon and evening, October 22.
Baumann’s Home Bakery of Marcus is inviting the people of the Marcus Community to an open house Wednesday of next week.
The sale of the Hillegas Barbershop in Marcus to Gaylen Bierbower of LeMars was announced this week.
Mr. & Mrs. George Johnson will observe their golden wedding anniversary with a shower-dinner held in the Municipal Building in Marcus.
Arthur Sandbeck passed away Friday evening October 1 in the Lutheran Deaconess Hospital at Minnepolis.

Mary Ellen Kelly has received official confirmation of the selection of her book, “But with the Dawn Rejoicing,” as a Catholic Digest Book Club book of the month.
Funeral services for Miss Hannah Grace, 83, of Marcus who died Sunday at the Marcus nursing home, were held Thursday morning at the Nelson Funeral Home.
The plan for the consolidation of the Cleghorn and Meriden school district voted on last Wednesday carried by a substantial margin an dthe board of the two districts are making preliminary preparation to establish the new district July 1, 1960.
Mrs. Anton Anderson, 69 of Marcus passed away Sunday, October 4 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee.
George Meisenhilder, 77 was found dead in his home Saturday morning, October 3, apparently having passed away quietly during the few preceding hours.
60 Years Ago -1964
Price support loans for the 1964 corn crop will be $1.03 per bushel in Cherokee County, Louis Bengston, chairman, Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation county Commission has announced. This compares with the 1963 crop loan rate 99 cents per bushel for the county.
James Cronin, 79, passed away early Sunday morning at Sacred Heart Hospital in LeMars following a brief illness.
Two seniors at Marcus Community have been honored for their high performance on the National Merit scholarship qualifying test given last spring. Each student who is endorsed by his school, receives a formal letter of commendation signed by his principal and the president of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Ralph Gibson, the school principal has announced Dennis Gray and Jane Bergland.
Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid observed their 56th anniversary at the regular meeting October 1.
The CAR will present a program on Patriotic Education Week Sunday, October 11 on Channel 4 at Sioux City. Local people appearing on the program will be Mrs. William Ehmcke, Vanna Joy and Vance Bruce Marquis and other officers of the CAR.

William Norbert Boever died in Sioux City hospital Saturday after several months illness.
Jalaine Specht, a junior at Wayne State College, has been elected to the executive council of the PEN Club. She is also the chairman of the intercollegiate committee.
Loren Polson, 42 a native of this community, was killed Wednesday evening, October 1 in the crash of a light plane near Hartley.
Lightening set fire to a hog house on the Milton Galles farm west of Marcus early Sunday morning burning it and its contents to the ground. Fortunately no livestock was lost by 2,000 bales of hay and straw went up in flames. The structure was fairly new and the loss was about $8,000 partially covered by insurance.
Earle Gill, 78 of Marcus, died Sunday, October 5 at Des Moines. He had spent the past several months there following the death of Mrs. Gill.
Mr. & Mrs. Lyle Birch Jr. of Yakima, Washington, announce the arrival of a son born Tuesday, September 30.

The Marcus Community School District is planning an open house for their new central hot lunch kitchen facility for Tuesday, October 15.
Mr. & Mrs. Michael Treinen, are the parents of a son born September 22.
Miss Julie Meylor and Jon Stowater reigned as king and queen of the Marcus Homecoming.
Mrs. Henry Dorr Jr., 79 passed away at her home in Marcus early Sunday morning following a lingering illness.
Marlin Ver Steef and A. Koenigsfeld are the new owners of the Cleghorn Lockers from Milt Remes. Both men are natives of Minnesota and were previously employed by Wilson and Company at Marshall, Minnesota and Cherokee.
Tom Wiese auditioned and was accepted for the Siouxland Youth symphony Orchestra in Sioux City.

Richard Brownmiller, 48 of Climbing Hill, died Sunday as a result of injuries received in a truck verse car accident near Mondamin.
Rick and LaDonna Olson of Cherokee are the proud parents of a daughter born Monday, October 1 at Buena Vista Hospital in Storm Lake.
Mrs. Anna Juhl will be celebrating her 92nd birthday on Tuesday, October 16.
Barbara Hohbach of Marcus is a member of the 90 piece Buena Vista college Marching Band which is performing during the halftimes of all home football games.
Mr. & Mrs. Gary Harms are happy to announce the birth of a daughter on September 29.
