Mrs. Rosetta Booth, wife of Eugene Booth, was laid to rest March 26 at the age of 52.
George Prunty, former resident, passed away April 2 at Greeley, CO at the home of his daughter. He was 52 years of age.
P.P. Holmes was elected mayor of Marcus, March 24 with 252 votes. He defeated A.J. Birch.
Miss Harriet Burrell was elected county superintendent of schools. C.A. Brink of Marcus was re-elected to the county board of election.
100 Years Ago – 1924
135 loads of ice were taken from the creek at the Grauer farm this winter by the Farmers of Amherst and vicinity.
Charles Woodall attended an auto show in Sioux City Wednesday.
The high school girls will entertain the basketball boys at a party in the high school gymnasium Friday evening.
H.E.Neir left Monday night on a business trip to Rockford, IL.
T.J. Delaney of Rock Rapids was in town last Tuesday. He brought his son, Arthur, who will work in the post office.
95 Years Ago -1929
Marcus has the honor of holding the second round of the estate declamatory contest on Friday evening.
James Williams, one of Marcus most respected citizens, passed away on Monday after a brief illness.
Seventy five members attended the regular session of the Marcus chapter Order of the Eastern Star on Tuesday evening and enjoyed the program commemorating the 25th anniversary of its organization in 1904.
William G. Pitts, who 83rd birthday occurs today, will be honored guest at an open house party when friends and neighbors will call this afternoon to help Mr. Pitts celebrate.
An April Fool’s party was enjoyed by about 18 young people at the home of Miss Ruth Rosburg on Tuesday evening.
Mrs. Fredericke Fricke, resident of Cleghorn for the past years, passed away March 27 after a short illness.

Sixty nine votes were cast in the school election Monday. Ray Peters and R.J. Pattison were re-elected to three terms and Dr. C.H. Swift was elected for one year to fill a vacancy.
Cold weather has suspended work on the W.P.A. project at the railroad crossing west of town.
Nagle Brothers announced that the skating rink will be reopened Saturday after being closed tow weeks because of spring epidemics.

A brooder house on the Lyle birch farm caught fire Monday, causing heavy damage. More than 500 chicks were burned or smothered.
Ruth Ohlendorf, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Will Ohlendorf, passed away at the home of her parents on Wednesday afternoon
Mr. & Mrs. Robert Roberts were honored at a housewarming party.
Mrs. Ethel Bass, wife of the late J.C. Bass, passed away March 16 at Trenton, Tennessee.
Specials at Straub’s Store were sugar, 5 lbs 33 cents; raisins 2lbs, 27 cents; and ivory soap, regular bar 2 for 13 cents.

President of the board R.R. Satterlee was re-elected to the only expiring term at the local school election.
Mrs. Francis Brady, 86, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Earle Gill after many years of declining health.
The Marcus Rotary Club turned thumbs down on the proposition of a Rath packing plant moving into Marcus.
All of the officers of the Marcus Department were re-elected at the organizational annual election. They are Howard Peavey, chief, John Clarkson, assistant chief, and Wendell Grauer, secretary-treasurer.
Members of the Eastside Birthday Club honored Mrs. E.H. Goodburn on her birthday last Wednesday in her home.

Mr. & Mrs. Jim Whealon are the parents of a daughter born in March.
Members of the Seba Lodge have resumed clearing away debris from their former temple destroyed y fire tow years ago. They are making plans to build a new temple in the same lot and adjoining lot where the Lyric Theatre stood.
A baby girl was born to Mr. & Mrs. Floyd Grauer.
Mary Ellen Kelly, Marcus foremost lady of letters, reached a milestone in her literary career when she received word from the Woman’s Home company that a full-length feature article which she had written would appear in the June issue of that publication.
The Marcus fire department was called to the home of Mrs. George Scott on Railroad streeet at 6:30 Saturday morning by a kitchen fire.

Ardys Deichmann daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Fred Deichmann of Marcus, was one of the small percentage of the student body of the University of Nebraska which received an average of eight or better in her studies.
Grant Nelson, son of Mr. And Mrs. L.R. Nelson, Marcus, has been elected vice president of the high school junior class as Kemper Military school, Booneville, MO.
Dr. and Mrs. Richard Barry of Omaha are the parents of a daughter born March 11.
Mr. & Mrs. Albert Grauer were pleasantly surprised Tuesday evening when neighbors gathered to give them a housewarming in their newly erected home.

Open house will be held this Saturday and Sunday in one of the new homes in the Leavitt residential development on the south edge of Marcus.
Fire destroyed the LeMars Globe Post and caused smoke damage to three adjoining stores early Wednesday.
An advertisement in the News announced that Leland Nielsen, who recently quit farming, has bought the corn shelling equipment which had belonged to the late Ellwood Green.

Mr. & Mrs. Marlin Seel left the Sioux City airport last Monday for a tour of Washington DC sponsored by the Cherokee County Farm Bureau and returned home Thursday.

William Berger suffered a back injury as a result of a fall from a feed wagon Tuesday morning.
Anna Reker, 85 of Spencer, passed away Tuesday, March 12, at a Spencer Hospital following a lingering illness.

Marcus Lions Club president Darrell Downs announces that the Lions Club will sponsor the Little League Baseball and Softball for the upcoming season.
Max Drefke was elected president of the Cherokee County Cattleman’s Association.
Claude Gross of Gross Inc was presented a plaque and lapel pin from Gehl representative Clete Ortmeir on behalf of the assistance extended by Gross in the organization of the First Gehl Dealer Council.
Mr. & Mrs. Paul Busch of Oyens are the proud parents of a son born March 13 at Sioux Valley hospital.

Glenn Miller who has been in the funeral business in Marcus for the past thirty five years, retired January 1.
Ann Knudson visited Paula and Mike Knudson in Iowa City of the weekend.
Mrs. Ruth Hohbach 83, passed away at her home in Cherokee.
Milo Miller, standing in for all the client workers at the Cherokee County Work Activity Center, received a check from Doug Rohwer, President of the Marcus Action Club in the amount of $500.
