Personal Mention
This has been another very busy week! I received a call that Ab Smith had been on the Honor Flight and would I interview him. Sure, but that is hopefully coming up this week. I did not know he had been on this Flight.
We went to Julia Sand wake at the church on Tuesday night and stood in line for over an hour. Wednesday we went to her funeral that found the church filled to capacity. As a card on a funeral floral arrangement said, “One great lady has been taken from our midst”. May memories comfort those whose lives she has touched as well as those of family and friends. May she rest in peace until we meet again.
We have two more deaths that occurred this week—that of Randall Polson and Lorna Olson. May memories of these loved ones be of comfort to their families/friends.
It was Zachary’s birthday on Thursday. I needed ink for the printer so I said I would take him out for lunch for his birthday if I could get to Le Mars for the ink. I did get the ink but it was not the right number so that night we went back to exchange it (there was something else that he had to get or else we probably wouldn’t have gone back that night!) So, he got another meal!
When I read the Cherokee newspaper, I was confused with the title saying that workers were going back to the courthouse. Reading the article, they won’t be going back until maybe the middle of August.
Mid July Marcus will be getting a new business in the former United Bank of Iowa—Fifty-Nine Grind. They will have a drive-thru in the (one way) alley. I understand they have a mobile unit (truck) that can come to a location by setting up an appointment.
Wednesday night Jason Kollum was at the Marcus Public Library with his Juggling Show. It wasn’t all juggling but also featured “balancing”. Could you balance a cap bill on your nose? He could and did keep his audience of all ages interested.
This Monday afternoon the Library featured Laura Jones who shared ways that animals communicate with each other. Do you believe birds can talk their language to each other or any animal to another animal as well?
I was ready to get some rhubarb on Saturday and then it started to rain. I know that it is not good for my “blood” but I really just want to have some rhubarb punch.
Sunday, June 18 was the last day that the Sioux City Journal was delivered to your door. Only 3 papers—Tuesday, Friday and Saturday will be available and in your mailbox. After over 10 years, Steve will be able to sleep all night and not worry about delivering the paper. I’m sure it will be awhile before he gets adjusted to not getting up during the early morning hours.
I ran across an article on Federal safety regulators who are urging consumers to stop using baby pillows that have been linked to 10 infant deaths but are still being sold on Facebook Marketplace, despite being recalled two years ago. The Boppy Newborn Loungers are no longer legally for sale but the Safety Commission has found thousands of them on Facebook Marketplace since the 2021 recall began.
Facebook Marketplace has been made repeated requests from the Commission, but no action has been made in response to the average of one thousand take down requests made each month over the last year.
The Boppy Co. recalled more than 3 million of its infant pillows due to suffocation risk in September of 2021—with reports of eight deaths associated with Boppy’s loungers between 2015 and 2020. Two more babies died shortly after the recall began. Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled loungers—as babies can suffocate of they roll over, are placed on the lounger in a position that restricts breathing or move off the infant pillow. You would think something could be done to get the sale of these stopped.
Remember in your thoughts and prayers those who have lost friends/loved ones to death, have had their lives changed, have a health problem some of which are terminal, are struggling to make ends meet even thought they have a job, help those who desire “wants” are more important than “needs” that prestige isn’t everything and be with those who are still trying to shorten the distance between family/friends to build a bridge instead of a wall. Count your blessings! I will close with this quote from Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) American politician: “Well done is better than well said.”
