R. G. Rodman of Cherokee has passed the bar examination and has been admitted to practice in Iowa and Illinois.
Marcus defeated the Storm Lake baseball team Thursday 1-0 in a pitcher’s battle.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dempsey, June 7, a seven pound daughter, Helen Katherine, at Sioux City.
Omar Mithun entertained 24 little friends at a fifth birthday party Monday afternoon.
J.A. Flinn has returned to Marcus and opened a veterinary office in the Carey Brothers drug store.

Gladys Neir and K. Phillips of New Madison were married June 13 in a home wedding.

Harold V. Norris, M.D., was graduated from the University of Iowa Monday at the 78th commencement exercises.
Thirty-three Masons gathered in the W. E. Simons home Thursday evening to pay their respects to Mr. Simons who has been in failing health.

John Neir celebrated his 7th birthday Tuesday at a party.
Arlene Schmillen is ill with pneumonia in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arlie Schmillen.
Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Christian Church for Fred E. Paine, 72.
Charles Woodall and Bonnie Garlow left Tuesday for Galveston, Tex, to, visit this summer with Mr. and Mrs. Walt Garlow.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cook are the parents of a baby girl born Monday morning.
Eleanor Wester became the bride of Burton Lundell June 11 at Oakdale Free Church.
Laverne Miller was selected by the F. I. Goodburn post of the American Legion to attend the 6th annual Hawkeye Boys State.

A large group of relatives honored Mr. and Mrs. Ray Walsh on their 25th wedding anniversary at a dinner in the municipal hall.
In a double ring ceremony at the beautiful chapel of RodRers Park Methodist Church at Chicago, ill., Bettye Pat Winsler, daughter of Mrs. Hayes F. Winsler of Evanston, ill., became the bride of Kenneth Lyle Pallesen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Pallesen on June 8.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Galles are the parents of an 8 lb. 10 oz. son, born Friday, June 4 and named Ronald Alan. He is their first child.
The Marcus Merchants will play a benefit softball game for Leon Ebert, who received a broken collar bone in a game 3 weeks ago.
70 Years Ago -1953
Frank Marquis, about 82, a longtime resident of this community, passed away at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Le Mars.
Georgia Ann Wiedemeier and Sharon Swartz of Sioux City, student ballet dancers, appeared on the television program, Kid’s Korner, on June 19.
The H. E. Means family, formerly of Marcus, were among those who suffered from the recent flood. They were at home when the flash flood came and were rescued by boat. The flood did a great deal of damage to their new home, furniture and clothing.
The Goodrich & Carris Oil Company of Cleghorn, distributors of Mobilgas and Mobiboil in this area, have been awarded a plaque by Socony-Vacuum to mark the completion of five years as a marketer of the company’s products.

Elaine Juhl and Floyd Rassel, both of Marcus, were united in marriage at Carmel Lutheran Church, Wednesday, June 18th at 8:00 p.m. They will make their home in Marcus.
Mary Ann Kestel was honored on her 4th birthday with a Sunday dinner in the parental Paul Kestel home, with many relatives joining them.
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Grauer became parents of a son, Douglas Floyd, born June 11 at Sacred Heart hospital in Le Mars.
The new barber at Merle Mead’s Barber Shop is George Vraspir, who comes here from Thurston, Nebr.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Roethler were honored on their 20th wedding anniversary June 15, at a surprise picnic supper.

Joe Stratton, secretary of the board of directors of the Marcus Community School district, resigned that position effective July 15.
Ellis H. Francis is the new superintendent of Meriden Cleghorn Community Schools. Ellis and wife, Phyllis, are the parents of 2 daughters and 3 sons.
Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Franklin entertained at dinner Sunday honoring their son, Daniel on his confirmation.
Robert Dale Nielsen, 36, passed away at the Cherokee hospital June 12 following a long illness.
Mrs. Mary Jeanene Rupp Schaefer was among 44 to receive their degrees from Briar Cliff College in Sioux City.

Phyllis Bunt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Bunt of Marcus, was among the 21 nurses to graduate from St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux City.
Larry Keffeler, HM3 of the U.S. Navy at San Diego, is on a 15-day furlough in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Keffeler, before being transferred to San Francisco.

Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Bork announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Deborah Sue, to Roger D. Urback, son of Rev, and Mrs. Richard H. Urback of Calloway.
Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Simons entertained at dinner Sunday in honor of the baptism of their son, Tony.
Mr. and Mrs. Martin Spieler observed their 35th wedding anniversary with a family dinner held at the Marina Inn in South Sioux City.

Reverend James Davidson is the new minister at Grace United Methodist Church. He and his wife Marjorie are the parents of four children, a son, Michael, was killed in an auto accident, Randy, JoEtta and Rebecca,
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Robison of Tempe, Az. were honored at an appreciation night at the Marcus Golf Club, Friday, June 16. He was the basketball coach at Grand Meadow from 1956-1964.
Ralph Hesse, former Cleghorn resident, and Patti Patton of Sioux City were married recently and will make their home at Sioux City, where he is employed. Patti will be a teacher in the LeMars public schools this fall.
40 Years Ago –1983
Joan Bryant, a 1979 graduate of fylarcus Community High, and John Lee Kennedy of Las Cruces, N.M. are planning a July wedding.
Paullina, Iowa celebrated its Centennial July 2,3 & 4th and appreciated the Marcus Community support.
The Big Booth special Saturday, July 2nd: all the chicken you can eat for $3.79. It includes a salad, potatoes and bun.
35 Years Ago – 1988
Becky Lundell, formerly of Cleghorn, and now of Mesa, Az. and Tom Willis, also of Mesa, will be married July 13th in the Oakdale Church.
The Marcus Lions are planning a big bang-up” 4th of July with Francis Bierman and Gerald Pallesen as cochairmen. Fireworks will be set off at the local golf course.
30 Years Ago – 1993
Leo and Marie French of Cleghorn and Edgar and Esther Hagey of Marcus attended the 50th wedding anniversary celebration of Charles and LaVonne Rae at Sioux City Sunday after -noon.
25 Years Ago – 1998
The Cleghorn High School Class of 1943 held its 55th reunion with 11 of the 13 graduates attending. Those two, unable to be there, sent letters.
Justin Pitts, MMC baseball pitcher, threw a no-hitter against Unity Christian, June 19th, for another Eagle Victory.
