MMCRU Prom 2023 – A Night Under the Lights

By Elaine Rassel
The 2023 MMCRU Prom was Saturday, April 22. The weather up to this time had been very changeable. With temperatures in the 80’s and 90’s in April, certainly Spring was on its way and those in the Prom could expect a warm night. Well, on Friday evening we experienced snow coming and going. Saturday morning there was snow on the ground and it was not very warm out. Finally, late afternoon the snow was gone!
The Grand March was at 7 o’clock but doors opened at 6:30 for those wanting to get a good seat. This year, because of the building going on of the schools, there posed a problem of finding a parking space without walking a great distance to the school. People arrived early to get a parking space. At 6:15 doors were open and we went to pay $3 (going for scholarships) and then wait for the chance to get a good seat.
We couldn’t get into the gym the usual way so had to go through the Commons, down a long walk and finally made it to the backside of the gym stage. This year there were seats saved in the front middle seating section of the stage for those who were handicapped. With that good spot to take pictures taken up, we were seated toward the west of this.
The couples came in from the west side of the gym, down the middle aisle, back toward the bleachers (across from the stage) making two different stops, then back to the front of the east side of the stage and stopping for pictures there and exiting from the east to the backside of the stage. As you can see, there were several spots to take pictures but only if you were seated there.
Mr. Derek Marrah was the Master of Ceremonies. Mrs. Kayla Schroder was also there. First to enter was Junior Class President, Alyson Ball escorted by Owen Alesch. Senior Class President, Avery Schlenger was escorted by Landon Waldschmidt. Junior Class Vice President, Mykin Youde was escorted by Hayven Hollinshead. Senior Class Vice President, Isabelle Olson was escorted by Branden Whited. Junior Class Rep., Kennedy Tentinger was escorted by Gunnar Johnson. Senior Class Rep., Kierra Gengler was escorted by Noah Galles. Junior Class Representative, Kaleigh Gravenish was escorted by Dawson Pick.
Now it was time for the Juniors to do the “Walk”. Isabella Ahlers was escorted by Kaydance Rassmussen. Kyler Bork escorted Kate Bonderson. Olivia Bush was escorted by Quinn Laskie. Cody Evans escorted Allison Partridge. Kaden Galles escorted Jadyn Young. Luci Haaven escorted Katelynn Reiter. Elspeth Hogg was escorted by Reise Regennitter. Jordyn Holsinger was escorted by Jaxon Woodall. Kysa Jochims was escorted by Carver Miller. Caleb Kamphoff escorted Emma Keun. Allie Ney escorted Bree Richardson. Caitlin Olson was escorted by Eric Rezac.
Taytem Pedersen escorted Abbi Linn. Andrea Penning was escorted by Eoin Hogg. Mason Peters escorted Addison Brueggeman. Jonah Petersen escorted Aubrie Kooiker. Natalie Plagman was escorted by Isabella Ahlers. Mason Roberts escorted Amera Faber. Hope Russell escorted Savanaha Hinesley. Luz San Martin was escorted by Carter Astidias.
Mitchell Schnepf escorted Jinger Nieuwenhuis. Owen Schroeder escorted Zoe Vacura. Perla Solano was escorted by Stephen Goodwin and Jordan Staab was escorted by Keegan Stevens.
Oh, we are not done yet! The Seniors and their escorts were next.
Kora Alesch was escorted by Andrew Barinsky. Jaidyn Ballard was escorted by Brayden Dunn. Derek Goth escorted Emma Vasher. Sophie Hohbach was escorted by Carson Loutsch. Jaelyn Kabisch was escorted by Brett Staab. Hannah Neddermeyer was escorted by Josh Wetter. KC Nicks was escorted by Kora Alesch. Abby Olson was escorted by Isaias Batista. Elizabeth Pederson was escorted by Josh Doellinger.
Senior Class Rep Emma Reuter was escorted by Kadden Groepper. Ally Sanow was escorted by Evan Cortez. Michelle Schmidt escorted Jaelyn Kabisch. Braxton Staab escorted Mariah Thomsen. Kam Steffen escorted Olivia Glasmaker. Bryce Tentinger escorted Ella Ruba and Torey Tentinger was escorted by Grant Schroeder.
Then it was time to have the Prom Court come forward. Vying for King and Queen for 20-23 Prom were: Derek Goth, Gunnar Johnson, and Braxton Staab for King. For Queen were Kierra Gengler, Torey Tentinger, and Emma Vasher.
And, the King for 2023 Prom is….Gunnar Johnson! And, the Queen for 2023 Prom is….Emma Vasher!
When someone began picking up lights on the floor close to the stage, I thought the Prom Court was going to be in this area and finally some good pictures could be taken. I was mistaken! The Prom Court was in the East part of the gym. I was sitting in the west side and I couldn’t take any picture. Right after they were crowned, the people on the stage went for the floor. (That’s why the lights were taken away.) They were there to take pictures of their young person and possibly with some friends. And, so another Prom is over and memories are made!
Host /Hostess for this event were Jace Colling-Kylie Harpenau.
The Banquet followed at 8 p.m. in the Commons. Their meal included Burger Bar and Parmesan chicken, Cheesy Potatoes, Lettuce Salad, and Oreo Salad.
The dance followed at 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. I understand that after that, there was entertainment at the Remsen school. We can be thankful for those that made this possible so our young people could have a safe after-prom as well as good memories of their 2023 Prom.
