Iowa State University Extension and Outreach to host healthy cooking workshops in Cherokee
Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will host three different “Healthy & Homemade” programs on Jan. 20, Jan. 27, and Feb. 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the ISU Extension and Outreach office located at 209 Centennial Drive in Cherokee.
Many people find it challenging to prepare healthy meals. Several factors, including a lack of time and experience in the kitchen, can contribute to this challenge. ISU Extension and Outreach is hosting “Healthy & Homemade,” a program that will help participants learn ways to overcome these challenges
“If you’re looking for ideas on how to eat healthy and make the most of the time you spend in the kitchen, this workshop series is for you,” Sweers said. “We invite you to join us for one, two or all three healthy cooking sessions.”
“Healthy & Homemade” programs hosted in Cherokee will include:
Jan. 20, 6-8 p.m. – Slow Cooker Meals – Explore the basics of using the slow cooker, food safety tips and meal ideas. Preregister online at https://bit.ly/hh19765 or call 712-225-6196.

Recipes, tastings, and hands-on activities are included with each program.
“Cooking at home can be a way to save money, eat healthy, and reduce the risk of chronic disease” Sweers said. “Studies have shown that meals cooked at home tend to be healthier.”
Sweers said that participants can choose to attend any of the three sessions. Registration fee is $10 per session, which includes food tastings, recipes, and hands-on resources.
