Earl Snyder sustained a severe injury when loading a young bull into a wagon when the team was startled at the commotion and started to kick.

August Krekow, 84 died October 28 at his home southwest of Marcus. August was born in Germany and came to America when he was 30. He is survived by his wife Paulina and their 9 children.
Cleghorn high school football team lost their game with Aurelia Friday night.
Harry Baumgardner purchased his new Studebaker Standard coach from L. M Miller.
Mrs. Francis Swindle, linotype operator at the Marcus News office was admitted to the Community hospital to have her appendix removed.
90 Years Ago – 1931
The Exchange Bank Building of Marcus and all fixtures contained on the first floor including the equipment used by the post office was sold to W. E. Simons.
This week the Delaney Brothers announce that prices on their fine stock o f shoes have been slashed for the benefit of the public. Young ladies Shoes: Heels, New Toes, Ties and Pumps $2.95; Red Goose Shoes $2.65 & Little Gents Shoes $2.00 – $3.00.
The new fire truck purchased by Marcus and farmers of the community arrived late due to a severe rainstorm in Illinois.
85 Years Ago -1936
Robert Young will be opening a modern locker refrigeration plant in the Odd Fellows Building. Lockers will be rented out for a year or month for the purpose of storing meat. The 20×38 freezer will hold 420 lockers.
The Food Shop Ad: Early Ohio Potatoes $1.98 for a 100 lb. Bag, Folgers 1 pound can of coffee 28¢, and Glen Valley Catsup 10¢ for a 10 oz. Bottle.
80 Years Ago – 1941
Jimmy Smith wins first over all in music contest in the Eagle Lodge amateur contest held in Cherokee.
The Cleghorn Carnival well be held on November 7 in the gym. The Highlight of the evening will be the coronation of the carnival queen. Candidates are Iris Smith – senior; Rachael Rae – Junior; Doris Goodrich – Sophomore & Lorraine Wester – freshman.
Mr. an d Mrs. Ervin Woltman are the proud parents of a son born on October 27 and named Roger Lee.
75 Years Ago -1946
The voters of Marcus will go the polls on Nov 8 to vote on the question of issuing bonds for a new well and pump for the city water system.
The Tilden-Amherst-Marcus Service Organization is making plans to again send packages to members of the service at Christmas time.
Mr. & Mrs. Ed Johnson visited Sunday evening in the home of Mr. & Mrs. Raymond Schmillen and helped celebrate Mr. Schmillen’s birthday.

Voters of Marcus chose Nels Pallesen for mayor of the town in a quiet election.
Mr. and Mrs. Merle Sand and family were supper guest at the home of Mr. and Mr.s Otto Frangenberg.
Miss Regina McLaughlin attended the National Catholic Music Educators Association convention and banquet at Heelan HS on October 30.

Darlene Pitts was honored at a bridal shower On October 28 in the Arley Schmillen home. Decorations colors were aqua and brown.

A combination corn picker and sheller outfit belonging to Merle Sand caught fire last Saturday afternoon and was extensively damaged.
Mr. & Mrs. John McKernan are parents of a daughter born October 18, at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital. She was named Carol Sue.

Mr. and Mrs. Lovell Roberson, Sr. have purchased the Clarence (Bud) Van Veizen home and will take possession November 1.
Dick Boever, formerly of Marcus, will be one of the contestants in the bowling show over Channel 9 this Sunday.
50 Years Ago – 1971
The Marcus Junior High football team won their fourth game of the season without a loss Tuesday afternoon as they beat Willow 52-0.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Schmillen of Cherokee will observe their 25th Wedding Anniversary with an open house on October 23.
45 Years Ago – 1976
Dr. Steven Schachterle has received his degree of Doctor of Chiropractic and has taken over the practice of Dr. G.R. Hobson.
40 Years Ago – 1981
Clara Peters, 87 passed away October 29 in the LeMars hospital. Survivors include her 7 children and brother Ira Hinspeter.
Joe Bird and Jill Havener were crowned 1981 homecoming king and queen at Morningside College.
35 Years Ago – 1986
Farmers State Agency announces the purchase of the Craig Dorr-Miller Mac Insurance in Marcus, effective December 1.
Wayne Waller has been accepted in the U.S. Air force. He will fly to Sioux Falls and then to San Antonio, TX where he will start basic training.
30 Years Ago – 1991
Marcus is digging out off the foot of snow received over the past weekend. Zero visibility with 40 to 50 mph winds kept most folks home.
25 Years Ago – 1996
The Marcus Green house is celebrating 35 years in business on November 15. Everyone is welcome to celebrate. A free rose will be given to each customer on that day.
20 Years Ago – 2001
Around three hundred children came to the Trick or Treat with the Marcus Merchants on Sunday. The kids also had a chance to check out the Marcus Haunted House.
