Marcus Sesquicentennial Parade

It was HOT but the heat didn’t keep people away from watching the Sesquicentennial Parade on Saturday (Aug. 14). This year it started on Railroad Street, then past Marcus Lumber, to the Post Office corner, went west one block and then turned south and down past the Fire Station. Dave Stevensen was on the corner by the Municipal Building doing the speaking.
First to lead the parade was the Marcus Police. Marcus American Legion followed. (I am going to proceed with just the entry.) Remsen Legion VFW. Grand Marshal King Jim Hoefling and Queen Julie Sand. Marcus Fire Department trucks and Ambulances. Cherokee Ambulance, Fair Float with Little Miss Marcus, Kylee Olson, daughter of Jim and Katie Olson and the Runner up, Kaylee Kohn, daughter of Kyle and Lorna Kohn. Smith Insurance_Smith Family band. Class of 1946. Chamber of Commerce. Pizza Ranch. NCC, Daughters of Revolution, O.C. Tractor Club. Vintage Wheels. 10 entries for Shriners.

Thanks to Dave for lending me his record books so I could write who was in the parade. Some entries changed places with others so they are not all in the order as they passed by the announcer for the parade.
I had written down the classes that had floats. Other than the ones mentioned earlier there were 8 other classes that were not written down in the information I received. These classes were 1981, 1986, 1987, 1996, 2001, 2006, 2011, 2015, and 2017. There was one other class from 2000’s that I did not write down and it wasn’t in the information given me. If it was YOUR class and you want it recognized, let me know. There was a total of 20 classes in this parade!
