115 Years Ago -1910
L.H. Talcott’s father, who has been staying at his home for several weeks is quite ill but improving. Mrs. Talcott was summoned and arrived the first of the week.
J.F. Collins sold 80 acres belonging to Christopher Flanagan to Patrick Brady in Marcus township last Friday. The consideration was $9,800.
Just arrived: a new shipment of overshoes at Boots Clothing
Ben Delaney has purchaseed the residence property owned by Peter Jackson, which the Delaney’s have occupied the last year.
W,M. Ladd of Winterset has arrived in Marcus and opened a tailor shop in the rooms over the city bakery. He has had 25 years of experience at tailoring.
105 Years Ago – 1920
Miss Ruby Swanson, daughter of Mrs. Yarrington has accepted a position as stenographer in the office of L.J. McGivern.
Mrs. Walter Corbett has decided to leave Marcus where she has lived for nearly a quarter of a century and will leave November 1st for Minneapolis.
Mrs. Wayne Stipe spent the day with her husband who is still confined to Sacred Heart hospital in LeMars. Mrs. Stipes weeks ago.
100 Years Ago – 1925
Monday afternoon Charles Addy brought a twig containing three apple blossoms to the News office. The petals were gone from one flower and doubtless, if weather had permitted, it would have developed into a luscious juicy apple.
Final rites for Mrs. John Greff who died at the family home north of Marcus Wednesday morning, October 7 took place at Holy Name Church Saturday morning.
Dr. Theodore Niemann of San Diego, CA had a birthday recently and to celebrate the event, called his mother, Mrs. Hope Niemann.
J.A. Hamad has returned form Omaha where he purchased a stockof men’s goods and will open for business in the E.J. Keleher shop next week. He will also continue to operate his shoe repair business.
95 Years Ago -1930
A beauty shop will be opened Saturday in the rooms under the Farmers State Bank by Miss Edna Brown of Cleghorn.
Mr. & Mrs. Merle Weicht and family left Monday morning for their new home in Alexanderia, PA where Mr. Weicht will operate a farm.
Dr. G.R. Hobson has taken over the chiropractic practice of Dr. Alice Delaney which he purchased recently and is now in his office over the Farmers State Bank.
90 Years Ago -1935
The Misses Lucille Barnes and Catherine Garvin, both of this city, have been chosen to sing in the Bel Conto glee club at ISTC at Cedar Falls.
Funeral services for Henry B. Liggett, who passed away last Thursday following an illness of several weeks, were conducted at the home Sunday afternoon.
In the presence of relatives and a few intimate friends, Wednesday afternoon, October 2, in the Danish Lutheran church, Miss Bernice Margaret Juhl and Roy Jebsen of Hinton were united in marriage.
A shortage of water exists all over the country and some farmers have been hauling water for their stock for the past six weeks.

The elevator purchased by Melvin and Harold Dorr at a point about 30 miles north is being placed on the foundation today.
Dorothy Mae Dorr returned Sunday morning from a three weeks trip which includes visits in Port Angeles, Seattle and Kalispell, Montana.
A large number of friends attended the funeral service for Mrs. Fred Ritchie at the farm home Sunday afternoon.
Funeral Services were held Friday, September 20 for Mrs. Carlenda Bjork, who passed away at her home Wednesday morning Rev. C.W. Samuelson, pastor of the Carmel Lutheran church.

At a very impressive ceremony Sunday, afternoon, October 7 Maine Polson and S/Sgt. Stephen C Hathaway of Brooklyn, Michigan were united in marriage at the Methodist Church.
The W.W. Bass family received a happy surprise Tuesday evening when C[l. William Bass Jr., USMC “walked in” to spend a 30 day leave at home.
Pfc. Reginald Anderson, Son of Mr. & Mrs. C.E. Anderson, underwent a major operation September 24 at Temple, TX where he has been confined since May 7.
Funeral services for Leona Seeger were held Wednesday morning at Holy Name Church with Rev. E.L. McEvoy officiating at the Requim High Mass.
When Ira Ames harvested his peach crop this fall, he was the proud owner of more than a bushel of fruit. This was produced by a single tree which Ira had planted on his farm four years ago.
Raymond Muehl purchaased the Delaney Grocery store this week. Mr. Muehl has been manager of the store for the past three years.

Services for Mrs. Mary Walsh, 80 of LeMars were held in Holy Name church in Marcus Tuesday morning and burial was made in Holy Name cemetery. The Rev. E.L. McEvoy officiated at the service.
Mr. & Mrs. Alfred Dorr announces the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Beveryly to Leon Ebert son of Mr. & Mrs. Emil Ebert.
Mr. & Mrs. William Struve wish to announce the marriage of their daughter, Marjorie, to Eldred McIntire. The wedding was solemnized Wednesday, July 19.
Plans for a big corn and soybean field day at the Iowa State Extension Department Test plants on the Sand farm are made for September 26.
John Meehan, 86, a resident of the community of Marcus, for the past 60 years passed away Sunday morning September 17 at his farm home north of Marcus.

The Marcs Rotary Club was host to Howard Shoemaker of Yankton, governor of Rotary’s 175th district, at its regular meeting Tuesday noon, and at a club assembly the preceding evening.
John Holer, 75, well known retired farmer of Remsen and who lived in the Marcus Remsen community more than half a century died at Sacred Heart hospital in LeMars Tuesday afternoon, September 20.
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Francis Delperdang Saturday morning, September 24 in Sacred Heart hospital in LeMars.
Mr. & Mrs. Andrew Ballard received a letter from a friend of theirs on, Gerald saying that Gerald had broken both arms in an automobile accident in Frankfort, Germany, where he is stationed.
Akron spoiled the Marcus public school homecoming last Friday evening to the tune of 25 to 0. Janet Hagenbucher and Paul Dorr were queen and king.
A family dinner was held in the home of Mr. & Mrs. William Garlow in Cherokee Sunday in observance of their 55th wedding anniversary.
The knee injury received by Jay Stinjes last week in football practice proved to be quite serious. A cracked knee cap an dtorn ligaments will keep the leg in a cast for six weeks.

Mr. & Mrs. Gaylen Johnson of Sioux City announce the engagement of their daughter, Karen to Larry Holmes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Holmes of Marcus.
Miss Margaret Fairlyn Forsyth and Virgil Kirchoff were united in marriage September 3 at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Forsythe at Webester Groves, MO. Mr. Kirchoff is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Lester Kirchoff of Cleghorn
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Healy of Tampa, FL are the parents of a son born September 21, he has been named David Alan.
Anders Nielsen, 66 of rural Cleghorn, died enroute to a hospital following a one care accident Monday near Dryden, Ontaria, Canada.
The Meehan Produce is moving to a new location, in the Carl Dorr building across the street from the Municipal Building

The graduating class of 1940 held their 25th wedding reunion this past weekend with dinner Saturday evening at Speelmon’s Steak House in Cherokee.
Julie Brady, daughter of Mrs. Jack Brady, underwent an apendectomy at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee on Monday.
Several neighbors Monday evening of last week in the home of nile Eberly to help him celebrate his birthday.

Mr. & Mrs Don Alesch are the parents of a seven pounds nice ounce son born Tuesday, September 5.
Joe Fisch of Remsen made a hole in one Monday on th enumber 9 hole at the Marcus Golf Club. This is Joe’s second hole in one here, the first coming about two years ago.
Mike Schmillen had knee surgery Friday morning at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Sioux City. He injured it during football practice Thursday at Westmar College where he is a student.
50 Years Ago -1975
Mr. & Mrs. Howard Peavy hotaed a dinner party Monday evening at the Golden Pheasant in Remsen for the members of the Tuesday afternoon Ladies League Coop Team and their husbands.
Mr. & Mrs. LuVerne Nelson were honoer on the occasion of their 25the wedding anniversary with a family luncheon held in their home on Friday, August 29.
45 Years Ago – 1980
Larry “Mr. Lucky” Wurth was holder of the winning ticket of the Lions Club drawing held in the basement of the Hawkeye. He won a trip to Las Vegas.
Mr. & Mrs. Charles Addy spent the weekend in Omaha where they attended the Nebraska/Iowa game and also helped Rachel Kelly celebrated her first Birthday.
Keith Johnson is a patient at OC Hospital.
