Foreign Exchange Student
By: MMCRU Haydn Aduddell
Andrea Torhus, a sophomore, is a foreign exchange student who currently attends MMCRU High School. She can be described as a calm student who is usually seen working quietly on school work in the classroom. Although she comes off quiet, Torus carries a lot of fond memories of her former country of residence: Norway.
Before attending MMCRU, Torhus had previously spent her earlier years living and going to school in Norway. Her school in Norway had about four times more students than MMCRU, and was located in a town with nearly double the population of Marcus or Remsen.
One notable detail about the school system in Norway, is that students only attend high school for three years, and they refer this to first, second, and third grade. Torhus explained the large number of ways Norway is socially different from the United States. One of her favorite aspects of Norway is the role fairy tales and fantastical storytelling plays in their culture. Her hobby includes snow skiing. With Norway being one of the coldest and most rugged countries in Europe, there were sure to be many areas perfect for downhill skiing in the country. In her freetime, Torhus enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
