The MMCRU Royals Impact Student Leadership Group set an initiative in the fall to start a schoolwide Poptab Collection Drive, encouraging all students, staff, and community members to keep poptabs and bring them into designated dropoff locations at our school. The kickoff was publicized with posters and a student made video. Royals Impact also designated a basketball game to push for all community members to make their poptab dropoff. Additionally, in Middle School, Mrs. Weber challenged her math classes to a competition of who could bring the most poptabs in order to win a “homework pass”. Through these various events and everyone’s efforts throughout the year the MMCRU Royals Impact was able to donate 218lbs of poptabs yesterday to the Ronald McDonald House of Siouxland in Sioux City, Iowa. In addition to the dropoff the student leaders were educated on the impact of the poptabs and the impact that Ronald McDonald has in our Siouxland area. Overall the event was a huge success for MMCRU and we encourage our community to continue to save their poptabs as we hope to make this an annual event.
