Jaylen Bork
By Elizabeth Pedersen
Jaylen is the daughter of Shane and Taylor Bork. Jaylen has three younger siblings by the names of Kyler, Kamden and Laiken. Beyond athletics, outside of school Jaylen likes to hang out with her friends and her family. Watching movies, drawing, and driving around town with a few people are just a few ways that Jaylen likes to spend her free time.
She has also just recently just started coaching the sixth grade volleyball team, but in the past she has always spent time volunteering with the youth teams. One of Jaylen’s pet peeves is when people open their mouth and smack their gum. Jaylen’s greatest accomplishment is making it to the state basketball tournament and playing at the “Well.”
Jaylen has been in many sports and activities such as volleyball, basketball, track, golf, baseball manager, speech, choir, band, National Honor Society, FFA, Royals Impact, leadership group, homecoming court, and volunteer youth sport camp coordinator.
Some of Jaylen’s favorite memories are her freshman year when she ran in the state track meet, when she would take different trips up to Iowa State to tour their facilities, and when they would drive to Cedar Rapids to watch state volleyball. She also likes the many, many bus rides to their games. Jaylen liked the class senior trip and it was a fun day as a class and of course the state basketball game at the “Well” was a highlight.
Throughout Jaylen’s high school career, she has not had a stable job but she does babysit when she is asked to. She did have a nanny job her sophomore year. One of Jaylen’s favorite school lunches is taco soup.
One of Jaylen’s favorite songs is “Classic” by MKTO, her favorite movie is “The Notebook,” and her favorite band is One Direction. Jaylen’s fear is dying in a plane crash.
Jaylen’s favorite year of high school would be senior year because she has the most freedom, the least amount of homework and up until this last semester, it has been the least stressful. This year has been the most successful for Jaylen in at least volleyball and basketball. Next year Jaylen plans to attend Briar Cliff University for her elementary education and coaching degree, and also to play on their volleyball team.
Jaylen would like to be remembered as the girl who always had a smile on her face, and always made others feel welcomed. Jaylen is hoping that her teammates remember her as a great leader, and someone they can trust. Jaylen is hoping that her teachers remember her as someone who always worked hard in the classroom and someone who was always there to help others when they needed it.
