Staff Spotlight
By Baily DeBoer
This week’s Staff Spotlight is Deb Mayer. She has been at our school for over 20 years. This year will be 21 years of being a para. She is commonly known as “Jaxon’s Para”. Mrs. Mayer was raised in Marcus, IA and she currently works at the Marcus location. She did graduate from MMC, and went to college at USD but never knew what she wanted to do. She went for two years but never finished for a degree. Now that time has passed she wishes she would have gone to college to become a teacher because she enjoys working with kids. When I asked Mrs. Mayer what advice she had for students she said “Like I always tell Jaxon, you’ve got two choices, a good day or a bad day, which do you choose?” and to “always be kind”. One piece of advice she wishes she got in high school was not to worry so much about if she’s doing something wrong, and thinking she had to figure things out so quickly. Mrs. Mayer really enjoys being in the MMCRU districts because of the staff, community members, students, and the changes.
