Royals lose to Wolverines 28-0
MMCRU traveled to South O’Brien Friday the 24th to face the 3-1 Wolverines. The Royals were down a couple of varsity starters, including Senior Keegan Stevens, Junior Kam Steffen, and Sophomore Jonah Petersen, so some younger Royals got to see the field. Freshman Jace Colling had a 25 yard reception, and carried the ball 2 times. Freshman Kezden Steffen and Grant Prescott also saw some time on defense for the Royals.
MMCRU made a statement on defence in the first quarter, but the offence struggled. After losing the coin toss and receiving the ball to start the half, the Royals had a quick 3 and out, but the defence got the ball back after a forced fumble and recovery by Senior defensive lineman Michael Rupp. Again, the Royals offence couldn’t move the ball against the Wolverine defence led by Senior linebacker Pete Bottjen. The score stayed tied 0-0 until late in the second quarter. Running Back Parker Struve found the endzone from the five yard line to give the Wolverines a 6 point lead.
The Royals got the ball back and looked to drive from their own 37 yard line, but on the first play of the drive Junior Quarterback KC Nicks tried to force a throw to Sophomore Kyler Bork, but was picked off by the Junior Hudson Oolman. Oolman brought it back 46 yards for another South O’brian score. The 2 point attempt was good and the score was 14-0.
The Royals kicked off to Parker Struve to start the 3rd quarter. Struve picked up the kick and navigated his way 84 yards through the Royals kickoff team for another South O’Brien Touchdown. The score was now 20-0.
Struve found the endzone again in the 4th quarter on a 5 yard carry. Struve ended the night with 174 yards rushing on 27 carries for 3 total touchdowns. South O’Briens Pete Bottjen rushed for 93 yards on 13 carries.
The Royals were led in receiving by Senior Preston Astidias who had 5 receptions for 91 yards. The loss makes the Royals 0-5 on the season.
