Obituary – John R. Addy

January 9, 1947 – February 19, 2026
Attended Creighton University and graduated with a B.S. in Biology in 1969 and was part of the last draft call and spent the next 2 years proudly serving in the U.S. Army, including 7 months in Vietnam. After his military service, John worked for 5 years with the Measurement Research Company and National Assessment of Education Progress and then worked 1 year with Pitney Bowes. John spent the next 32 years in the elevator industry with O’Keefe, Millar, and Schindler Elevator Companies. After retiring in 2007, he sold cemetery monuments in Omaha.
John loved spending time with his sons, Patrick and Michael, and family. He enjoyed sporting events including Creighton, St. Louis Cardinals, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Nebraska Cornhuskers. John volunteered his time with the Boy Scouts, Christ the King sports and funeral lunches, 42 years with Hillside Little League, money counter at St. Mary Magdalene and Christ the King Catholic Churches, Nebraska Medical Center and the Marcus Fair. He was a member of the Business Breakfast Club, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Sister City of Omaha Board, and the Field Club of Omaha (but not a pro golfer by any means). John loved traveling and talking with people.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Fern Addy; and brother, Raymond Addy.
Survived by sons, Patrick (Tabitha) and Michael Addy; longtime companion, Ina Schmillen; brother, Charles (Franci) Addy; sisters, Joan (Michael) Kelley, Gayle Addy; many nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and friends.
Visitation was held Monday, February 23rd, from 5:00-6:30 PM at Christ the King Catholic Church (654 S. 86th Street) with a Vigil Service at 6:30 PM.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, February 24th, 10:30 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church.
Entombment was at the Calvary Mausoleum with Military Honors.
