Marcus City Council Meeting
Regular Meeting of the City Council was held January 12, 2026 at 5:00 pm with Mayor Bunt presiding. Council members present: Ebert, Schmillen, Whited, Edwards. Absent: Jenness
Motion by Edwards, seconded by Schmillen to approve Consent Agenda: City Council Minutes, Bills, Treasurer’s Report, Res #26-01“Transfer of Funds”, Res #26-02, “Resolution Naming Depositories”, Official Newspaper- Marcus News, Committees, City Clerk & City Attorney. Ayes: Ebert, Schmillen, Whited., Edwards. Nayes: none. Motion carried.
Bill Anderson and Brian Freed presented the annual report for CAEDC.
Motion by Schmillen, seconded by Edwards to approve Res. #26-03 “A Resolution Authorizing the City of Marcus to Purchase Real Estate”. Property at 113 S Locust St. Ayes: all. Nayes: none. Motion carried.
Discussion was held on allowing Little Sioux Corn Processors to dispose of industrial waste. An Ordinance change would be necessary. Motion by Ebert, seconded by Schmillen, to have Matt Dreckman talk to LSCP to see if they will be willing to pay legal fees to change ordinance and a set fee for disposal. Ayes: Ebert, Schmillen, Edwards. Nayes: Whited. Motion carried.
Motion by Whited, seconded by Schmillen to approve signing the Waiver of Covenants for Lot 13 in the Business Park allowing it to be permitted for use as educational purposes. Ayes: Ebert, Schmillen, Whited. Abstained: Edwards. Motion carried.
Clerk Harvey informed the Council that Dallas Carey has resigned as the Library Director and there will be an open house hosted by the Library Board on January 15th, 11:30-1:30.
Public Works report was given by Matt Dreckman.
Chief Flikeid gave the report of arrests, Iowa DOT installed the license plate reader at a temporary location on Main St. It will be moved to HWY 143 when they get the permit approved.
Mayor Bunt gave an Economic Development update. He will work on a job description and work with MEDCO on finding someone for this position.
Motion by Ebert, seconded by Schmillen to adjourn regular meeting at 5:45 pm and enter into budget workshop. Ayes: all. Nayes: none. Motion carried.
