Boothby Funeral Home Announces Acquisition of Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home Expanding Service and Support for Local Families

Boothby Funeral Home, a trusted provider of compassionate funeral and memorial services since 1927 in Cherokee, has announced its acquisition of Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home of Cherokee and Marcus, that has been operating since 1953. Matt and Julie Schubert purchased Greenwood-Schubert in December 2009 from Tim and Patty Greenwood. For 17 years, they have had the honor and privilege of serving families in the community. As their family has grown and life has evolved, Matt and Julie are looking forward to spending more time together and shifting their working focus to their operations at Cherokee Monument Company, located at 209 S. Second St. in Cherokee, where they sell, install, and service all monument options. They will continue to assist families in the process from design to installation of their full product line of markers and monuments.
“We are honored to carry forward the heritage of Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home and continue serving the families of these communities,’ said David Boothby-owner and 3rd generation funeral director. “We will continue providing the highest level of care, compassion, and professionalism that families in our community deserve.”
David and his daughter, Jennifer Boothby-Nixon, a 4th generation funeral director are looking forward to the opportunity to serve more families and create personalized memorial services that truly reflect the lives and legacies of those we honor, ensuring each service is as unique and meaningful as the individual it celebrates.
“After many years of serving our community, we are confident David and Jennifer share our values and commitment,’ said Matt Schubert. ‘This transition ensures continuity for the families who have trusted us for generations. Our commitment to the community remains as strong as ever. “
The transition strengthens the Boothby Funeral Home’s ability to offer comprehensive, personalized care to families during their time of need. Under the agreement, Boothby Funeral Home will continue to operate at its existing location at 207 E. Main St. in Cherokee, maintaining its staff, facilities, and traditions of service and will also operate the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Homes at 216 S. Second St. in Cherokee, Iowa and in Marcus at 100 Eagle Avenue, all under the Boothby Funeral Home name.
Families will have continued access to modern facilities, pre-planning services, and a wide range of personalized memorial and celebration-of-life options.
The transition is effective January 1, 2026 and all existing pre-arrangements and service commitments will continue to be honored without change.
