Paullina Council Hears Bike Trail Update
by Mari Radtke
Jill Rausch spoke to Council Monday March 2 about the current status of acquiring land for use to extend Paullina’s exercise trail. Rita Kruger and Cindy Richter attended as well. The trio have worked together on this project for more than 2 years. The land that Ag State had planned to donate is not ready to be transferred. Professional mapping services remain to be done. They asked Council if the city would pick up that expense expected to e $1200-$2000. It includes some engineering work to the 28’ of (former) railroad track. The goal is for the new trail to go out to Mill Creek. The new land from Ag State will allow the trail to lead to Paullina’s downtown. The request will be put on the next agenda for formal action.
Paullina’s property tax hearing was set for March 23 at 5:30pm.
Council formally passed approval for city employees to obtain their Certified Pool Operator (CPO) licenses for compliance with Little Critter Splash Pad. Additionally, Council formally approved use of city equipment for assistance with the construction of the splash pad. The final need was approved which is to bring a water source to within 10 feet of the site.
The purchase of a brush mower was delayed. Quotes to do the kind of grass care intended to be done by city staff with the brush mower will be compared to what it will cost the city in man-hours and other work being delayed. The new Paullina Police Department patch was approved.
