South O’Brien Students Receive Recognition
Several FFA students received recognition. Austin negus, 1st place Gold Rating for Ag Broadcasting. He advances to districts. Jaelyn Wallin placed first in Creed Speaking and is advancing. A first place rating also advancing to districts is the chapter team of Reese Farquhar, Abby Woodall and Tawni Wulf. A second place gold rating and advancing to district is for conduct of meetings team Kate Dau, Jasper Johnson, Gretchen Joines, Hunter Lange, Torrin Templer, Drew Wittrock and Noah Wittrock. BreLee Rasmussen won a 3rd place gold for public speaking and is an alternate to districts.
Chapter Quiz 1st place gold went Drew Wittrock. Kate Dau placed second with Noah Wittrock, 4th Jak Behrens, 9th and Sarah Puhrmann finished 10th. Jasper Johnson, Hunter Lange and Andie Gay earned silver ratings. The Greenhand quiz silver ratings went to Ryleigh Fuller, 10th, Aspen Gergen and Jaelyn Wallin. Karson Dau and Karlee Sturges received bronze ratings.
District Large Group Speech Division I ratings went to Owen Oliver, Braylynn Pedersen and Luke Vande Griend for group improv. Short film honors for “The Gnome” went to Owen Oliver, Adrianna Ebel, Braylynn Pedersen, Lily Brown, Sarah Puhrmann, Luke Vande Griend and Kate Dau. Additional Division I honors recognized by the board are Radio Broadcast (KBLRA) go to Amelie Wilson, Lilliana Corbin, BreLee Rasmussen, Raegan Plagge and Kate Dau. Radio Broadcast (Physics Files): Avery Halverson, Reese Farquhar, Brennan Billick, Lindsey Einck, Addison Hedberg, Anessa Johnson.
Division II recognition go to:
Group Improv: Adrianna Ebel, Jaiel Warden, Sarah Puhrmann and Lily Brown. Short film for “The Whistle” went to Lilliana Corbin, Amelie Wilson, BreLee Rasmussen and Raegan Plagge.
State Large Group Division I ratings for Group Improv went to Owen Oliver, Braylynn Pedersen and Luke Vande Griend. Gnome short film Division I ratings went to Owen Oliver, Adrianna Ebel, Braylynn Pedersen, Lily Brown, Saran Puhrmann, Luke Vande Griend and Kate Dau. Division II Ratings for KBLRA Radio Broadcast went to Amelie Wilson, Lilliana Corbin BreLee Rasmussen, Raegan Plagge and Kate Dau. The Physics Files Radio Broadcast earned Division II ratings at state. Members were Avery Halverson, Reese Farquhar, Brennan Billick, Lindsey Einck, Addison Hedberg and Annessa Johnson.
The South O’Brien Jazz Band earned a Division II rating at the IHSMA State Jazz Band Festival at MOC-FV. The annual Morningside Jazz Festival placed South O’Brien as the Class 1A runner up. Soloist awards went to Asa Flinders for his trombone performance. Also earning soloist recognition were Chloe Hustedt on trumpet and Anessa Johnson on both clarinet and bari sax. Results of the LeMars Jazz District contest put South O’Brien in a second place finish. That give South O’Brien yet another trip to State competition on April 7 in Ames. Soloist awards went to Asa Flinders, Chloe Hustedt, Anessa Johnson and Natalee Miller on piano.
