MMCRU Girls Basketball

The MMCRU Girls’ and Boys’ basketball teams are entering districts of their 2025-2026 season. The girls’ first round is on Saturday, February 14, but the 12-9 MMCRU was placed with a bye for their first round for the first time since the state runner-up team from 2022. Tia Tentinger said she has high hopes for the post season and is planning on making far advancements this year. They will play in the second round on Tuesday, February 17, against South Central Calhoun in Marcus.
The boys’ are placed at the top of their bracket with their 20-1 regular season record and will play either West Bend-Mallard or Storm Lake St. Mary’s on Monday, February 16. With the first seed in their bracket the boys are feeling confident about their post season results based on how hard they have been working this season.
MMCRU Girls Basketball vs Remsen
The girls MMCRU Royals basketball team played hard at Remsen on Monday February 9 agains the Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven Ayeshire Titans. The Titans outscored the Royals in each quarter. But the Royals stayed in the fight. The Royals opened the scoring and held a lead through just under half of the first quarter. Three lead changes during the rest of the period made for an exciting opening. But the teams went into the second period with a Titans 15-12 lead. The Titans maintained their lead through halftime. The Royals tied it up in the third and held a tie game through the middle part of the third. The Titans pulled it together and took over the lead for the remainder of the game. The game final was 50-41, a Tital win.
GTRA’s scoring leaders were Lauryn Hough, freshman with 17 points, 6 points from outside. Sophomore Kamryn Hough scored 15 with a 3 and junior Addison Hansen hit 14 points. Kamryn jumped for 8 rebounds with 3 offensive and a steal. Lauryn took down 6 boards and 5 steals. Hansen under the basket grabbed 5 with 2 reclaimed. She blocked 2 and stole 5.
Outstanding Royals performances came from junior Chloe Alesch with 19 points, 6 boards, half under each basket. Junior Tia Tentinger also scored 19 with a 3. Lana Florine, senior scored 7. Six points came from outside. Florine also grabbed 8 misses, blocked 2 shots and stole 3. Junior Brielle Lux rebounded 4, half under each basket and a steal.

Domination Game at Remsen
The MMCRU boys basketball team jumped out to a 22-9 lead in the opening period of basketball Monday February 9 at Remsen. The visiting team was the Titans of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Airshire. The Royals continued broadening the point spread throughout the game. The game final sat at 72-33.
Titans’ scoring leaders were senior Lucas Girres with 21 points, hitting 12 points from outside. Freshman Brooks Hanson gave 6 oints and senior Teagan Hanson dropped in 4.
For ball possession, junior Landen Dietrich boarded 7 with 2 offensive re-dos. Senior Will Darr pulled 5 with 1 re-do and a steal. Teagan hanson pulled 3 with 1 offensive. He booked 3 steals.
Royals’ senior Kamden Bork scored 22 points with 6 points from the circle. Bork also claimed 6 rebounds with 4 from the Royals’ scoring basket. Senior Michael Schmillen pulled 15 points, also showing skill from outside. He put 6 points on the Royals board from outside. Junior Josh Peterson drilled 10 points. Peterson’s court play was felt all over the court. He took 9 boards with 4 offensive. He blocked 1 and stole 1. Senior Brayson Mulers tood down 8 misses with 1 offensive. He stole 2.
West Sioux Falls to MMCRU
Remsen was busy the first part of the week with varsit basketball. On Tuesday the Royals brought the Falcons of West Sioux for varsity play. The scoring story was similar. The Royals dominated the court all four quarters, after the Falcons taking an early opening lead. The Royals recovered before the first buzzer and never looked back.. Game final was 64-28.

Senior Kamden Bork topped Royals’ scoring with 15 oints. He also boarded 4 with 2 offensive and 3 steals. Senior Brayson Mulder dropped in 9 points. Junior Josh Peterson scored 8 and booked 4 rebounds half at each basket. Peterson also blocked 2 and stole 5. Junior Eli Harpenau boarded 8 with 2 offensive re-dos and a blocked shot.
