MMCRU Girls Basketball

MMCRU Royals hosted neighbors Lawton Bronson Eagles at Remsen on Monday December 15. The Class 1A Western Valley Activities Conference team outscored the Royals on their Remsen court 56-45.
Junior Tia Tentinger led Royals with 15 points. Junior Chloe Alesch dropped in 13 points and senior Sadie Youde scored 6 for the hosts. Alesch led rebounding with 7 boards, 3 offensive. Tentinger was also strong under the basket. She pulled down 5 with 3 from the offensive end. Junior Gracie Schraeder boarded 5 misses with 1 second chance. Tentinger thieved 6 steals with Alesch and Schraeder each taking 1.
Sophomore Bree Jessen led Eagles’ scoring with 18 points. She hit 4 of 10 3-point attempts. Junior Laney Nelson scored 16 with 3 of 6 successful 3-point attempts. Amiyah Drew senior scored 11 points toward the Eagle win. Nelson took donw 10 rebounds with 4 offensive. Junior Kaylee Mesz claimed 6 boards, 2 of them from her own basket and Jessen took 5 with 4 offensive rebounds. Nelson and Mesz blocked 2 shots each. Jessen got 3 steals.
Heartbreaker at George
The Royals’ traveled to George to face the Georgle-Little Rock Mustangs in basketball action Tuesday December 16. Win or lose this game was a thriller from start to finish with all players putting out their best.
The Royals took an opening quarter lead, 18-15 and gave up 2 points of that lead by half time. The break sat at 23-22 with a Royal lead. Returning to play the Mustangs outscored their guests in the third period by 3, taking a 2-point lead. There were six lead changes in this quarter. The Royals regained the lead and held it for most of the final 12 minutes. The host team worked back to a final winning score by holding the Royals scoreless in about the last half of the 4th while steadily adding to their own scores. The Royals outscored the ‘stangs in the final quarter, but only by a single point, leaving the Royals ending the outing with a 1-point loss by a last second score by the Mustangs.
Junior Chloe Alesch topped Royals’ scoring with 13 points followed by junior Tia Tentinger with 9. Senior Kaleigha Dreckman put in 8 points, hotting 2 of 4 from outside. Alesch’s effort under the baskets netted her 6 rebounds while Youde grabbed 5. Junior Gracie Schroeder took down 4. Her effort under their own basket was critical bringing down 3 offensive rebounds.
Defensively Alesch grabbed 2 steals and Youde took 1.
G-LR leaders scoring were senior Lindsey Haken with 22 points. She attempted 5 shots from outside, scoring 9 points out of her effort. Sophomore Grace Ubbinga scored 8 and senior Kaylee Zomorano added 7 points. Ubbinga owned under the baskets at both ends. She grabbed 9 rebounds with 5 being offensive. Haken tood down 8 including 2 at her own end.
Ubbinga blocked 3 shots and grabbed a steal. Haken blocked 4 shots with a whopping 11 steals. Senior Nevaeh Feucht boarded 3 missed shots, blocked 1 and stole 3.
