Harry Hough has recently completed the new 26 x 36 bungalow on Sunset hill, contracted by Elmer Hanson and William Garvin. It has 5 rooms and a bath and is modern throughout.
Mrs. Weinstein of Sioux City has opened up a men’s suit and coat store in the old restaurant building occupied by Bork and Bork.
100 Years Ago – 1925
Mr. & Mrs. Frank Benedict, pioneer residents of Marcus, observed their 50th wedding anniversary recently.
The long drought was broken here yesterday by spring rains. Although it spoiled the success for the community sale yesterday, both businessmen and farmers agree that it was a million dollar rain.
The LeMars city council rescinded by a vote of 4-1 the ordinance prohibiting the showing of moving pictures on Sunday in the theaters of that city.
L.J. Dreger of Aurelia sold heavy steer at the top of the market for this weight at Chicago recently when he received $11.60/ cwt. For a shipment. Seventeen head of cattle averaged 1603 lbs. Each.

The residence of William Dickson has been quarantined for small pax. their second daughter is now ill with the disease.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Methodist Episcopal Church for Ed Sylvester, who passed away at his home in Remsen last week.
Johnny Hamp and his Columbia broadcasting orchestra with Kay Kernan and Jack Campbell in the roles of featured vocalists will be heard at the Japaneses Garden next April 22.
Hopes for paving primary road No. 5 across the country are entertained by members of the Better Marcus Club who discussed the surfacing questions and local public activities, following the regular monthly meeting.
A pageant of wedding gowns and wedding were presented at the Grand Meadow high school auditorium Friday evening. Wedding gowns from as far back as 1873 were modeled and the styles of years ago were greatly enjoyed by the audience.

Mrs. Mary Schlichte, 78, whose home is at Granville, passed away Sunday at the Sacred Heart Hospital in LeMars.
Lt. Virgil Wirt stationed at Indian Spring, Nevada, recently was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross
Margaret Kramer, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Joe Kramer, received her commission as 2nd Lt. March 26 into the Army Nurse Corp.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Frances Weber, 73, were held Tuesday, April 10 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Cherokee with Father Schulte officiating.

Louis Bork, 57 died suddenly sometime Tuesday night of a cerebral hemorrhage.
The City Council held its organization meeting Monday evening with new members E.E. Evans and Will Walton being sworn in.
Mr. & Mrs. Earl Devin returned Friday from a trip through the south.
Melvin Dorr was named president of the Rotary Club at a meeting of the newly elected board Wednesday morning.
Mr. & Mrs. Joe Brady were pleasantly surprised by a group of relatives and friends on their tenth wedding anniversary.

Peace Lutheran Church of Marcus will observe its tenth anniversary with a special service this Sunday morning. The Rev. R.W. Meyer is pastor of the church.
Mr. & Mrs. Steve Albenese of Cleveland, Ohio are the parents of a daughter born March 21.
Father J.E. Tolan, Sac City director of Sioux City diocesan Youth Organization, has announced that Dr. George Wiedemeier of Marcus has been selected to receive the DYO recognition for his outstanding work with youth of the diocese.
Nearly 800 first and second grade pupils of the schools of Cherokee County will receive Salk Polio vaccine before the end of the school year in accordance with plans made proceeding the announcement of its effectiveness Tuesday.
Charles Nielsen, operator of Chuck’s Electric, reports that 500 people visited his new place of business during the open house which marked its formal opening.

Henry Ohlendorf, 85 and residents of this community for 70 years, passed away at his home Friday morning April 8 following a lingering illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Marjorie Galvin, 42 died in a hospital Sunday were held Wednesday at the Visitation Catholic Church at Maryhill.
Ivar nelson, 70 and a Marcus farmer for many years, died suddenly Saturday afternoon.
Open house as held Sunday, April 10 at the municipal building in Marcus honoring Mr. & Mrs. joe Broblek on their 30th wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Carrie McQueen, 90, passed away at her home in Kingsley early Tuesday morning.

Mrs. Merle Treinen attended the 50th annual Tuberculosis Association convention held Thursday and Friday at Des Moines. Mrs. Treinen has been active with the association and TB seal program for the past 34 years and was one of five women in Plymouth Country to receive an award for her work with the association.
Mr. & Mrs. Glenn Metcalf of Spencer are parents of a daughter born Friday, March 26.
Carl Miller, a students at Drake University at Des Moines, has been pledged to the Drake chapter of Alpha Xi Delta social sorority. Carol is a daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Harvey Miller of Marcus.
A huge crowd of people gathered in Marcus Friday evening to see who was going to take home the RCA color television set given away by the local merchants. It was Mrs. Mildred Briggs of Marcus and it was generally agreed that it went to a good place.
At the Marcus meeting of the Cherokee County Conservation Board it was announced that the master plan for the Pearse area has been approved by the State Conservation Commission. This is an undeveloped fishing area 2.5 miles northeast of Quimby on the West River road consisting of 14 acres.

The Meriden Evangelical Free Church will observe its 25th anniversary with special services commencing April 14 and continuing each evening at 8:00 pm through Sunday, April 19.
Mr. & Mrs. Jim Wilcox, Jr. of Cleghorn are the parents of a son born Monday, April 6 at Sioux Valley Hospital.
Mr. & Mrs. Dick Ames and Mr. & Mrs. Melvym Greene enjoyed dinner at the Chalet Tuesday evening of last week in observance of the Ames 34th wedding anniversary.
The Marcus Jaycees will sponsor their second annual gun show this Saturday and Sunday. The show, as was last years will be held in the holy Name gym.
The 29th biennial state convention of the Catholic Daughters of American was held April 3-5 at the Holiday Inn in Council Bluffs. Mrs. Velma Garvin grand regent and Mrs. Florentine Weber vice guard regent of holy Name Court 1897 attended.

Elmer Blietz, 73 of Marcus, died April 3 at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars following a long illness.
Wayne LeRoy Simons passed away after a short illness in the Veterans Hospital in San Diego, California on March 22 at the age of 42 years 8 months and 19 days.
Mr. & Mrs. Duane Wittkop are parents of their first child, a daughter born Friday, March 21.
The 100th Anniversary of the beginning of Methodism in the Marcus community will be observed Sunday, April 13 at Grace United Methodist Church.
Mr. & Mrs. Rodney Stowater of Cherokee are the parents of a son born April 4.
45 Years Ago – 1980
Mr. & Mrs. Francis Meehan rural Marcus will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on Sunday, April 20 at the Peace Lutheran Church Fellowship hall in Marcus.
Mr. & Mrs. Brian Gates of Ames became the parents of their first child, a daughter on Friday, March 14.
The Marcus girls track team began their season at the Dordt Relays at Sioux Center Saturday. The Eaglettes competed against Sioux Center, Hull Western Christian, Unity Christian, Southwestern Christian and LeMars Central. They finished in sixth place.
