Wayne LeRoy Rassel was born on December 14, 1934 to Frank and Fern (Peck) Rassel. He was raised on the family farm south of Marcus through his younger years. Wayne had a strong work ethic from a young age, working for several farmers in the area and continuing to work multiple jobs into his adult years. Wayne always enjoyed farming and even losing a finger to a corn sheller didn’t slow him down.
Wayne was united in marriage to his first wife, Beverly, and they had two sons: Ronnie and Kevin. They lived and farmed in Larabee, IA and they later divorced.
On June 22, 1963, Wayne was united in marriage to Margaret Gengler in Remsen and they made their home in Le Mars. They later moved to an acreage outside of Le Mars. Wayne continued to farm but he also worked as regional truck driver for Wells Blue Bunny for over 30 years before he retired due to his health.
Wayne had not only a love of farming, but of farm machinery. He was a member and past president of the Pioneer Machinery Club in Le Mars. Over the years, Wayne restored and overhauled over 17 different tractors. He loved to take his finished projects to local tractor shows, especially at the Plymouth County Fair.
Wayne was a long time member of All Saints – St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. He also enjoyed watching baseball.
