Sing Me A Song of Plymouth County: from the field to the heart
The Plymouth County Historical Museum invites you to meet their new Executive Directors, Dr. Harry N. Dunstan and Kay Krekow at a special concert on Sunday afternoon, 15 September 2024 at 2:00 in the Museum’s Study Hall on the fourth floor. This dynamic husband and wife team are both professional opera singers and bring decades of experience in the performing arts, education, community engagement, and non-profit operations to the Museum. Krekow has roots in both Plymouth and Cherokee Counties and the couple lives on one of their two Century Farms near Marcus, IA. Dunstan is a native Virginian with roots in the farming culture of North Carolina. Sing Me A Song of Plymouth County: from the field to the heart will feature the world’s most beloved folk songs sung by Dunstan and Krekow, as they share stories of our life and the musical narratives that bind us together in our common cultures and experiences. They’ll demonstrate how sound meets experience: the way music is constructed; how we perceive music, through both cognition and emotion; why we are so moved by certain sounds or types of music; and how music speaks to us in ways that go beyond words. You’ll feel the thrill of emotion in their live, full-throated, operatic voices as Dr. Dunstan and Ms. Krekow sing the songs “close binding humankind.” Come experience the new vibe at the Ply Co Museum!
