Cherokee County Board of Supervisors Meeting
The Cherokee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 with Rick Mongan, Bryan Petersen, Duane Mummert, Cheryl Ellis and Dave Skou present. Erin Rydgren, Chronicle Times, represented the press. Matt Todd, Kenny Schlenger, Ryan Kolpin, Sarah Tracy and Kelly Puhrmann were also in attendance. Unless otherwise indicated, all votes were offered as follows: Ayes – Ellis, Skou, Mummert, Petersen, Mongan; Nayes – none; Abstentions – none.
Chairman Mongan called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Motion by Skou, seconded by Petersen to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Motion by Mummert, seconded by Ellis to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. Motion carried.
There were no comments from the public.
Matt Todd, Weed Commissioner, presented an annual notice for destruction of noxious weeds on private property for the board’s review and consideration.
Motion by Petersen, seconded by Mummert to approve Resolution #2024-08 “Notice for Destruction of Noxious Weeds”. Roll call vote: Petersen-aye, Ellis-aye, Mummert-aye, Skou-aye, Mongan-aye. Motion carried and resolution adopted.
There were no right-of-way permits for consideration.
Sarah Tracy, County Engineer, requested a closed session to discuss right of way negotiations.
Motion by Skou, seconded by Mummert to go into closed session per Iowa Code Chapter 21.5(1)(j) “To discuss the purchase of particular real estate only where premature disclosure could be reasonably expected to increase the price the governmental body would have to pay for that property.” Roll call vote: Petersen-aye, Ellis-aye, Mummert-aye, Skou-aye, Mongan-aye. Motion carried and regular session was closed at 9:03 a.m.
Regular session resumed at 9:40 a.m. with no action taken as a result of the closed session.
Motion by Mummert, seconded by Skou to begin a summer meeting schedule on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month with additional meetings as needed. Motion carried.
The supervisors provided committee reports, reviewed meeting schedules.
There being no further business, Chairman Mongan called for a motion to adjourn the meeting.
Motion by Ellis, seconded by Petersen to adjourn the meeting at 9:44 a.m.
