The Cherokee County Board of Supervisors met in special session on Thursday, February 1, 2024 with Rick Mongan, Bryan Petersen, Duane Mummert, Cheryl Ellis and Dave Skou present. Erin Rydgren, Chronicle Times, represented the press. Debie Stevenson, Aracelli Castaneda-Johnson, Devynne Reis, Cindy Nelson, Kathy Allen, Courtney Hill, Nissa White, Lacey Daum, Derek Scott, Barb Staver, Michelle Schnoes, Nat Story, Sam Boothby, Amanda White and Sarah Tracy were also in attendance. Unless otherwise indicated, all votes were offered as follows: Ayes – Petersen, Ellis, Mummert, Skou, Mongan; Nayes – none; Abstentions – one.
Chairman Mongan called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Motion by Skou, seconded by Petersen to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Motion by Mummert, seconded by Skou to approve minutes of the previous meeting. Motion carried.
Ellis and Mummert reported on interviews conducted with applicants for the vacant County Treasurer’s position and made a recommendation to the board.
Motion by Mummert, seconded by Ellis to appoint Jodi Mongan to the position of Cherokee County Treasurer effective February 1, 2024 per Iowa Code 69.14A(2)(a) to fill a vacancy in the position until the next General Election. Roll call vote: Petersen-aye, Ellis-aye, Mummert-aye, Skou-aye. Motion carried with Mongan abstaining.
There being no further business, Chairman Mongan called for a motion to adjourn the meeting.
Motion by Ellis, seconded by Petersen to adjourn the meeting at 8:32 a.m. Motion carried.
