Personal Mention
You can tell it is getting closer to Fall by the way the temperatures have been. I haven’t heard the locusts singing yet—that is supposed to mean that a frost is 6 weeks away. Sometimes times this has been true.
I had two times of therapy this past week. I still cannot raise my “wounded” arm up above my head as far as the other arm. The therapist says that Rome wasn’t built in a day! That is encouraging. While I was waiting to go to therapy, a couple came and sat down in the waiting area. I sure thought it looked like Rachael Holmes but didn’t recognize the person that was with her and had his arm in a sling. Just then I left the area and afterwards asked Zachary if he had seen this couple and if it was Rachael. Of course, he was playing a game on the phone and wasn’t concerned about anything else. “No” he hadn’t. When I got home, Bethany said that it was husband, Steve with her. I hadn’t seen Steve for so many years and didn’t recognize him. I don’t know what he did to his arm, but hope therapy goes well for him.
Steve and I went to the School Board meeting on Monday night. I hadn’t received any previous information but did learn it was at Marcus. We went to the school and parked at a certain area thinking this was where the meeting was going to be. No, the door was locked so we began our walk and ended up going up those three concrete steps that have no railing to hold on to. We kept walking and thought it was in the Commons Area but learned there was a Volley ball game and people were going there for food so it wasn’t there. Finally we found the room that was called MMCRU Board Room. It is smaller but easier to hear. Anyway, the room was filled with people—evidently had come to talk on Public Forum. The MMC Principal gave me his chair. We were about 10 minutes late and missed out on the discussion these people had. The school is all turned around and hard to find anything yet!
Brenda Bird spoke on having her Spanish class take a trip in June to Costa Rica. For some, this could be a trip of their lifetime. Maybe some of them will have to be adopted like Miss Diment had in order to have kids participate in out of town speech programs that cost money to go to. It is planned to have an adult for every 6 students. The cost has been estimated at $3,629. There still are 9 months for a student to raise money to go. The 7 days will be busy days and on Day 8, they will be coming back with memories of what they experienced!
Did you see where Wells has donated $50,000 for the MMCRU Industrial Technology addition?
This school program is growing and will be adding about 5,000 square feet to the area they already have. The present program features technology that has been funded by several area businesses. Students interested in a certain trade can learn from here and be ready to help businesses out that are in need of help. The new addition will feature an advanced manufacturing program for machining and a bay for heavy equipment mechanics program. Congratulations to Industrial Technology instructors Matt Hansen and Nick Long!
Friday night MMCRU football boys played at Sibley at 5:30 p.m. I understand it was early because of what later weather conditions could be (last Friday, the game was delayed twice for 30 minutes each time because of lightening). We won the game at Sibley!
My television has been a problem again. There is a time when a noise is heard that sends the cat going—so I am not imagining it, but Bethany and Zachary think I’m imagining things. Then there is a smell that the last time last time lasted for 3 hours, even though the set was off. At the present time, I can get Sioux Falls, Channel 14, and Channel 4 but not any of the others. I don’t know if the wind outside has anything to do with this, but as long as I can get Sioux Falls, I’m not going to change the inside antenna.
Sioux Falls has Little House on the Prairie series on. I do remember some of these stories. I had forgotten that some of the place that was originally settled on, it was hard to financially live there and some of the people moved on. Mrs. Ingalls was a cook for Harriet Oleson in the Oleson restaurant. That Harriet was something else! How husband, Nels put up with her was unbelievable!
I have an article (if there is room for it) on a story of a girl that was on an Orphan trip that occurred before Orphan Train. When people came to the United States from other countries, they found it hard to find a job. They couldn’t speak English and no one needed them. Some of them left their children off at orphanages because they couldn’t afford to raise them. When these orphanages couldn’t keep all the children, they put them on a train that was going to the West coast. They hoped that the towns they went through would take some of the children. This story was before the Orphan Train and was with covered wagons.
I went to change the litter box the other day and was getting help from the kitten. How do you try to pour litter from a 25# box with one arm and have Teddy trying to help? I finally put him in the downstairs bathroom. When Bethany came home, she opened up the door and found the kitten had had fun with some paper towels! Well, at least I got my job done without his help!
The other day we drove past the pasture and found a dog in the main yard. Zachary let it out and of course it was very friendly. It had a tag on the collar, so someone owns it but how did it get in the barnyard? Anyway, it went merrily on its way and I was glad—kittens are enough and a dog at this time wouldn’t be a good idea. I’m happy to say that the owners of this dog were found later.
Steve had a good birthday. His co-workers (other paras) remembered him with a card and several other goodies! That was good of them to do this. Sometimes it is the little things that make a difference.
Remember in your thoughts and prayers those who have lost family/friends to death, have had their lives changed, have health problems some of which are terminal, are struggling to make ends meet even though they have a job; help those who desire “wants” are more important than “needs” that prestige isn’t everything and be with those who are still struggling to shorten the distance between family/friends to build a bridge instead of a wall. Count your blessings!
I will leave you with this quote: “He who lives for self and self alone, is a successful failure.”
