Personal Mention
Have you ever had a week where nothing went right? That could be my past week! It started on Monday and continued through Sunday. I had received no information on a school board meeting but it is the third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. so I was going to Remsen for this. I started calling Steve at 5:30 to verify a ride. Every 5 minutes I called and got no answer. Finally at almost 6 o’clock I called his cell phone. He said he was at school (open house) but had called Zachary who was suppose to take me over and Steve would arrive later. Zachary was sitting in the living room playing a game and knew how upset I was when all my calling was going on and not getting any answer.
Of course we took the dusty road to Remsen still thinking I had to be there at 6:30. When we arrived, the school parking lot was full of cars. The walk I would have had to get to the meeting was full of people—there was open house. I was not going to be let off if there wasn’t a meeting and have no way home. (Zachary lets me off at Walmart and says he will see me when I come out of the store. No, he parks somewhere and is playing a game while I am standing waiting.) We called Steve and said we didn’t think there was going to be a meeting and not to come. There were so many cars that I couldn’t see if any of the Board was there. I still did not know the meeting was changed to 7 o’clock.
So—I missed the meeting. The agenda booklet I get, I did not have. A friend of mine went out of her way to take me to Remsen on Thursday to get this booklet. I thank her for this.
It is Faith Lutheran’s turn to deliver Meals on Wheels during this time. Steve delivered on Monday but the other 5 times, he wouldn’t be able to as he was back in school. Do you think the two in my household could find 20 minutes? They would have Kim find someone. I really was upset at this time. I knew I couldn’t—at just about 11:30, Bethany tore out of the house, jumped in the pickup and tore down the alley. They did decide to deliver the meals but had to get me all upset. Now Friday came and they couldn’t as they had an appointment at the Food Bank in Sioux City at noon to pick up food for the Food Pantry in Marcus. They could not call and get another time; but they didn’t leave Marcus until 11:45. Now we have 3 more times left—it will be interesting as to who is going to.
I went to lunch with Ila and Linda on Thursday at the Pizza Ranch. I had already eaten but went anyway. If you haven’t been there, go and see how nice it is.
Thursday night at the Marcus Public Library, Hank Kohler took his audience on a canoe trip down the Mississippi River. This was not his first trip down the river, as I went back in my files and saw he had made a similar trip—UP the river and into Canada.
Friday I decided I was going to make a very small portion of goulash. I didn’t want to have frozen peas so got a can of peas and never did get the can opened and ended up having frozen peas anyway. Just when the pain in my left arm was a lot less—now it has returned. I am not a very good patient so am not happy with what is happening again. I thought Wednesday was therapy but looking over the letter, it is an appointment with a doctor. I just want to get back to where I don’t have to ask for help.
Friday night I spent 2 hours typing one page. Steve came down and typed what I had lost. It is now 7 p.m. and I have printed out what has been typed. Of course, it is the usual Sunday where it is amazing the places that suddenly need mowing and my work can wait.
I have a couple of stories that I am going to get ready to put in the paper. One is a true story that was in television. What else can I be doing? I can’t hold a book nor a telephone (that is when the caller can leave a message if it is important.) I have had a lot of time to think about the past and wonder if the future is going to make a difference to anyone that can’t tear down a wall.
Where are our neighbors that we had when we were growing up? People are being cited for weeds/lawn needs mowing. I remember when Floyd yelled to Kory not to mow Skip’s grass. Skip and Irene were on a little trip and had told Floyd earlier that he was going to let his grass go to seed. It was a close call! Then there was the person who mows as a job that was always helping get another person’s lawn mower started and about the time he would turn his back, the mower would quit. He knew she couldn’t afford another one so told her he would do her yard as community service for the Lord. And, if she ever tried to pay him, he wouldn’t be back again. This service went on for a long time until she moved. It was passing on what someone else had done for him. There should be more of this instead of always finding fault. It never hurts to take off your comfortable shoes and put on shoes that are in need.
Remember to keep in your thoughts and prayers those who have lost friends/family to death, have had their lives changed, have health problems sine of which are terminal, have a job but still are struggling to make ends meet, help those who desire “wants” are more important than “needs” that prestige isn’t everything and be with those who are still struggling to shorten the distance between family/friends to build a bridge instead if a wall. Count your blessings!
I will leave you with this quote: “I think forgiveness is really important. It takes a lot more energy to not forgive, but it takes a lot of effort to forgive.”
