J. 0 Barnes and C. W. Cisne sold the Marcus Telephone Company to Henry J. Reimers.
Birth was registered at the courthouse of Anna Louise, daughter of Fred Nagle and Zelma Sinock-Nagle May 11.
Funeral services for Robert H. Peavey, 71, were held Friday afternoon at the Methodist church. Survivors include three children, Allard H., Mrs. Roy Pitts and George 0.
Excavation has been started for a garage to be erected by A. J. Thompson.
95 Years Ago -1928
The Marcus Oil Company is installting a gasoline pump at the curb to make it more convenient for filling trucks.
Earle Gill is the first Marcus gardener to report eating ripe tomatoes from his garden.
Mary McDevitt was a member of the class of 1928 of the Sacred Heart hospital at Le Mars and is now a registered nurse.
Henry Smith has purchased the house on the lot where the Community Oil Company will build their oil station. He paid $300 for the building.
Work is progressing in paving Primary No. 5 west of Marcus. Over three miles have been paved so far.
$46,000 worth of business was done in Marcus in the past six weeks in comparison to $24,112 in the preceding six weeks.
85 Years Ago -1938
The Rev. C. W. Samuelson will address the 43 seniors of Marcus high school at Baccalaureate services Sunday evening. This class is the second largest in the history of the school.
The library and council rooms have moved from their present location in the fire station to the second floor of the Tutt and Radcliffe building which will be rented at $240 a year.
The Carl Anderson home was the scene of a lovely wedding when Thelma A. Anderson became the bride of Walter Calvert of Sioux City.
Laura Barnes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd S. Barnes, was married to Harold R. Russell at Omaha.
County 8th grade graduation exercises will be held in the Methodist church at Cherokee June 3 with 19 people on the honor roll including Mary Weber, Ilene Nelson, Phyllis Miller, Roberta Boothby, and Donald Hendrickson, all of Marcus.
John Hamilton, Irv Pietz and J. E. Ryan guessed the weight correctly on a large sausage, especially manufactured, at the Beck store.
Mr. and Mrs. Harley Wingert are the parents of a baby girl who arrived in their home May 20.

Mrs. W. W. Bass returned home on Friday from Long Beach, Calif., where she visited her daughiers, Jean and Mrs. Don Petrie.
Pauline Jenkins has accepted a position at the Nagle Food shop for the summer months.
Evelyn Weinreich became the bride of Pfc. Arnie Berglund May 21 in the Carl Weinreich home near Kingsley.
Bud Geringer purchased the North Side Cafe from Mrs. Kling Olson this week.
Doris Pitts was announced as valedictorian of the 1943 graduating class from Marcus High School and Margaret Kuttler was salutatorian.
William Hoxsie passed away Thursday evening in his home.

Joe Schmitz, local school bus driver, has received a careful driving award from the Iowa Department of Public Instruction.
An impressive wedding ceremony was performed in Trinity Lutheran Church when Helen Rubbert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rubbert became the bride of Harris Specht, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Specht of Cleghorn.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Bird announce the approaching marriage of their daughter, Audrey Clair, to Mr. Marcel W. Matgen of Remsen.

Arno J. Lenth, longtime resident of Marcus, passed away following a stroke.
Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Galles are the proud parents of a son on May 26. John Francis weighed 6 lbs., 11 oz.
Betty Pedersen, RN., has accepted a position as instructor in the surgical clinic of her alma mater, St. Joseph’s hospital at Denver, Cob., and will assume her duties on July 1, 1953.
Frank McQueen has purchased the
W.E. Woodall home south of the Marcus public school.
Harlyn Hillegas, formerly of Pierson, has purchased the McDaniel barber shop in Marcus, and will take possession June 1.

Anette Nagle of Rockwell City, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Nagle, formerly of Marcus, was awarded a Merit Scholarship to the University of Iowa.
Jack Clarkson, Chuck Sand, Gary Bjork of Paullina and Mike Ludwig of Remsen left for a vacation trip out west.
Patricia and Joyce Bindner, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Bindner, will take part in a dance recital of Carolyn Lewis, to be held in the Le Mars Central High School auditorium.
Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Addy became parents of a son on May 23. He has been named Anthony.

Mr. and Mrs. Otto Frangenberg will celebrate their silver wedding anniversary on June 2. An open house will be held at Holy Name Hall.
David Fitzgerald, a member of the Holy Name graduating class, received the American Citizenship Award.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Pallesen entertained at a dinner Sunday honoring their daughter, Kitty, who was
confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Cletus Gravenish entertained about fifty relatives and friends in Holy Name hall following graduation exercises. Their daughter Margaret was one of the fourteen graduates.

Construction of a new building to house the Marcus Division of the MoorMan Manufacturing Company of Quincy, Ill., is under way.
Dennis Erickson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Erickson, received his Bachelor of Science degree in history at the University of South Dakota.
John P. Brady, son of Mrs. Jack Brady, received his bachelor of science degree at Morningside College.
Rev, and Mrs. Henry Friedrich entertained a group of relatives and friends at dinner May 26, honoring Barbara on her confirmation.

Wind damage Sunday afternoon at the Loren Kauffman farm was a tree falling, breaking several electric wires and electrocuting 17 hogs.
Renee Horstman, daughter of Mrs. Bill Horstman, has been selected to represent the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 517 at Girls State.
In an impressive ceremony at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Des Moines on May 12 Barbara Jo Snyder became the bride of Patrick D. Gossen of Des Moines.
Holy Name Catholic Church was the setting for the wedding of Miss Beverly Delaney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max Delaney, and Gary Harms, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Harms of Paullina on April 28.
Joan Mary Bush, daughter of Mr. I Mrs. Lee Bush of Cleghorn, became the bride of David Darrell Dunn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Dunn of Meriden on May 12.

Kevin John Leavitt was born May 10 to Jim and Belinda Leavitt. He weighed 7 lbs, 11 ozs. and has a brother, Kent, athome.
Kari Ann Boothby of Cherokee and Kevin D. Johnson of Cleghorn are planning a November 17 wedding. He graduated from MC with the class of ‘86 and she graduated from Cherokee in ‘87.
Chrystile Lyn Wardrum is the lone senior in the MC Senior Spotlight. She plans to attend Northwest Missouri State and major in Psychology.

Robert Darrell “Bud” Snyder, 75, of Marcus died Friday, May 28. Funeral ser~ vices were held in Holy Name Church with burial in the church cemetery. Survivors include 2 sons, 5 daughters, a brother and a sister.
Heather Tentinger, a senior at MMC received the W.L. Gund award of $400. It is given to the graduating senior with the highest grade average.
25 Years Ago – 1998
Pearl and Otto Frangenberg will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary, June 6 with an open house followed by a dance in the Marcus Community Center, hosted by their children.
The triplets of Lance and Kathy Ehmcke of Sioux City were baptized wearing the family heirloom baptismal gown that originated in Germany over 100 years ago. Abigail Christine, David Frederick and Hannah Michelle, took turns in wearing it.

The Marcus Fire Department is heading up a fund drive to build a new addition to the Fire station with a goal of $125,000.00.
Don and Pat Grauer of Hermiston, Oregon will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on June 14.
On Thursday May 15 Paula Knudson received a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Educational Policy and Administration from the University of Minnesota.
