J. 0 Barnes and C. W. Cisne sold the Marcus Telephone Company to Henry J. Reimers.
Excavation has been started for a garage to be erected by A. J. Thompson.
95 Years Ago -1928
The Marcus Oil Company is installing a gasoline pump at the curb to make it more convenient for filling trucks.
Work is progressing in paving Primary No. 5 west of Marcus. Over three miles have been paved so far.
85 Years Ago -1938
The library and council rooms have moved from their present location in the fire station to the second floor of the Tutt and Radcliffe building which will be rented at $240 a year.
The Carl Anderson home was the scene of a lovely wedding when Thelma A. Anderson became the bride of Walter Calvert of Sioux City.
80 Years Ago – 1943
Pauline Jenkins has accepted a position at the Nagle Food shop for the summer months.
Doris Pitts was announced as valedictorian of the 1943 graduating class from Marcus High School and Margaret Kuttler was salutatorian.
Bud Geringer purchased the North Side Cafe from Mrs. Kling Olson this week.
75 Years Ago -1948
Mr. and Mrs. Vein F. Barnes announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Mary Josephine, to Mr. Donald E. Briggs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Briggs.
Joan Berger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Berger, was announced valedictorian of the Grand Meadow high school graduating class. Betty Beeghly, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eldred Beeghly, was named salutatorian of the high school.
Joe Schmitz, local school bus driver, has received a careful driving award from the Iowa Department of Public Instruction.

Frank McQueen has purchased the W.E. Woodall home south of the Marcus public school.
Harlyn Hillegas, formerly of Pierson, has purchased the McDaniel barber shop in Marcus, and will take possession June 1.
65 Years Ago -1958
Patricia and Joyce Bindner, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Bindner, will take part in a dance recital of Carolyn Lewis, to be held in the Le Mars Central High School auditorium.
Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Addy became parents of a son on May 23. He has been named Anthony.
60 Years Ago -1963
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Frangenberg will celebrate their silver wedding anniversary on June 2. An open house will be held at Holy Name Hall.
David Fitzgerald, a member of the Holy Name graduating class, received the American Citizenship Award.

Army Specialist Four Jerry W. Hansen, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben B. Hansen of Cleghorn, was assigned to the 175th Assault Helicopter Company near Vinh Long, Vietnam.
Construction of a new building to house the Marcus Division of the MoorMan Manufacturing Company of Quincy, Ill., is under way.
50 Years Ago -1973
Wind damage Sunday afternoon at the Loren Kauffman farm was a tree falling, breaking several electric wires and electrocuting 17 hogs.
In an impressive ceremony at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Des Moines on May 12 Barbara Jo Snyder became the bride of Patrick D. Gossen of Des Moines.
Holy Name Catholic Church was the setting for the wedding of Miss Beverly Delaney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max Delaney, and Gary Harms, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Harms of Paullina on April 28.

Dean Garvin of Marcus and Sheila Reichle of Alton are planning their wedding for July 22.

Charles Gipe of Marcus was named to the Dean’s Honor Roll for the spring semester at USD at Springfield S.D.
Patrick Reinert of Cleghorn and Marla Collette Reinke of Geneva are planing an August 12 wedding at Ackley.
35 Years Ago – 1988
Kevin John Leavitt was born May 10 to Jim and Belinda Leavitt. He weighed 7 lbs, 11 ozs. and has a brother, Kent, athome.
Kari Ann Boothby of Cherokee and Kevin D. Johnson of Cleghorn are planning a November 17 wedding. He graduated from MC with the class of ‘86 and she graduated from Cherokee in ‘87.
30 Years Ago – 1993
Heather Tentinger, a senior at MMC received the W.L. Gund award of $400. It is given to the graduating senior with the highest grade average.
Forty-nine fifth graders from MMC graduated from a 17 week program called Drug Awareness Resistance Education, D.A.R.E. Trooper Pay Hoyt of Storm Lake taught the group.
25 Years Ago – 1998
The triplets of Lance and Kathy Ehmcke of Sioux City were baptized wearing the family heirloom baptismal gown that originated in Germany over 100 years ago. Abigail Christine, David Frederick and Hannah Michelle, took turns in wearing it.
Cara Scott and Kelli Pitts, both of Cleghorn, were named Dimmitt Scholars at Morningside College. Scott majored in Physical Education and Kelli, a junior, is majoring in nursing.

The Marcus Fire Department is heading up a fund drive to build a new addition to the Fire station with a goal of $125,000.00.
