Staff Highlight – Cammy Wilkie

This week we would like to shine the Staff Light on Cammy Wilkie. She teaches ninth and tenth grade English classes. This is her first year of teaching. She was student-teaching in South Sioux City, NE before landing a job at MMCRU. She grew up in Sioux City, IA and attended Wayne State College, majoring in Secondary English Education.
She chose to become a teacher, because her father was a teacher in Vietnam and she grew to love the idea of teaching. In her younger years, she had to leave school to attend meetings and appointments to translate for her parents, and she wanted to share that experience with the younger generation to show them the results of working hard to become proficient in a second language. “I wanted to motivate the younger generation to keep working hard and being the best versions of themselves” stated Mrs. Wilkie. She hopes the best for her students, and gives them advice she didn’t get herself growing up. “I wish someone told me to not fall behind and focus on your schoolwork; otherwise, it becomes a landslide where you can’t get back up.” Her favorite part of the day is the early mornings when it is silent and peaceful.
