ADI Architecture for Clubhouse at Golf Course is Approved
The Marcus City Council opened their February meeting with a public hearing on “Proposed Property Tax Levy”. There were no written or oral objections, so Council voted to close the public hearing.
There were eight items under “Consent” Agenda that was voted on by one motion. Approved were the Minutes and Bills; Res #23.06—“Resolution Approving the Maximum Tax Dollars from Certain Levies for the City’s Proposed Fiscal Year 2024 Budget” and Resolution #23-07—“Transfer of Funds”. Resolution #23.08—Setting Time and Place for the Purpose of Soliciting Written and Oral Comments on the City’s Proposed Fiscal Year 2023 Budget” is to be at the next meeting—March 13, 2023 at 5 p.m. in City Hall.
The Application for Tax Abatement Under the Marcus Urban Revitalization Plan for Dennis Brady; The ADI Architecture for the Clubhouse at the cost of $163,260; and The Old Panhead Restaurant & Lounge, Inc. Retail Alcohol License, were also included in the items listed under “Consent” Agenda enacted by one motion.
Doug Dreckman, representing Public Works reported that the city crew has been working at getting the ice off the streets. He said they have started the DNR Lead Service Line Inspection, that is a DNR requirement, and is an inspection in homes to determine what type of pipe is coming into the home. This should take about a month to complete.
Mayor Bunt said the CAEDC (Cherokee Area Economic Development Corporation) Community Coffee will be at the Marcus Fire Station on Saturday— February 25, 2023 from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. State Representative Ken Carlson, State Senator Kevin Alons, members of the Board of Supervisors, and CAEDC board members will be at this CAEDC Community Coffee.
Mayor Bunt stated that the Audit was reviewed. The Council was given a bid for asphalting the alley behind the Community Center and also the driveway going to the Golf Course.
Before the ground thaws, there needs to be a geographic survey completed for the new Clubhouse at the Golf Course.
Chief of Police, Brian Flikeid reported that City Attorney Herbold is working on getting a 28E Agreement ready for the Death Investigator. (More about this in a separate article.) He also reported the following report: On January 17, 2023, the Marcus Police Department arrested, Melissa Carraway, 37 years old of Marcus. Carraway was taken into custody at her residence located in the 100 block of N Oak Street on warrants issued for her arrest out of Plymouth County for the following:
Violation of Probation, original charge Possession of Marijuana and Violation of Probation, original charge OWI.
During this arrest, officers detected the presence of a controlled substance in the house resulting in a search warrant being obtained. During the search of the residence, Officers located drug paraphernalia and marijuana residue. Also seized from the residence was ammunition as both known occupants of the residence were unauthorized to possess it.
Custody of Carraway was transferred to the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office and was held in lieu of $5,000 bond.
Charges related to the search warrant executed are pending.
The Marcus Police Department was assisted during this arrest and execution of the search warrant by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
Criminal charges are merely an accusation; all subjects are innocent unless proven guilty in the court of law.
The regular meeting of the City Council was held Monday, February 13, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. with Mayor Bunt presiding. Council members present were Ebert, Jenness, Enneking, Schmillen, and Frangione.
