Personal Mention
Unbelievable—No snow this past week! It has been warming up and some of the top ice is finally melting. I went to the O’Haira’s on Friday and found it took me more time to get down my alley and to the street then it took to walk the rest of the way in the middle of the road. This alley is terrible! I fell two years ago in this alley when there appeared to be no ice (black ice instead). The curbs on this street can’t be found so the middle of the road is the safest place to walk—hoping no vehicle decides to come down the road and check out who the dumb person is that is walking.
I just got home from Danny’s in Cherokee on Friday night when Ila O’Brien called to wish me a happy birthday. It was good to hear from her again.
One of my cards said that the sender had put the Marcus Fire Dept. on alert as to when I “blow” out the candles on the cake!
I almost lost one of my leather gloves at Danny’s parking lot. I had put the gloves in a blanket on the front seat as I didn’t want to take them in and forget them. When we got to the car, someone shook out the blanket and I ended up having only one glove. The passenger car door was open so I thought maybe it had gone out of the car. That area was “dark” and muddy. Bethany took her phone and shined the light—it was lying in semi-mud. I was glad for the light as otherwise I couldn’t see it.
Another of my classmates, Paul Christensen has passed away. Up to this writing, no obituary has been known.
Bethany received a Face Book message that Jennifer’s granddaughter, Adalyn Jenness (daughter of Mike and Becky (Allen) Jenness was having a first birthday party at the Ice Cream place in Le Mars on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Bethany couldn’t come as she was working so she contacted Becky to see if Steve could come or else I didn’t have a way.
This was my chance to take the last two blankets I had made for Adalyn and and Ericka’s son, Elliott. Elliott’s was Winnie the Pooh and Friends at the park and Adalyn’s was Minnie Mouse. I told them if they didn’t want them or need them, to find someone who would want them.
Adalyn’s birthday was February 12. She was really enjoying this time. I also got to visit with Lois Allen. I had not seen her for ages! I try to call her on the phone usually on Sunday when I am done getting my articles done. Lately, this hasn’t happened as I never seem to be done until probably when she is in bed and wouldn’t appreciate a call! (Actually I don’t call before 9 a.m. or after 9 p.m.)
That kitten (orphan) at the house has slowed down somewhat. I think it was so glad to have freedom that it showed how frisky it could be. Friday I had put two black stockings together in a ball and put them on the bed. After I put on my slacks, I turned around and saw the socks were gone! The kitten had taken them and I still haven’t found them. I had to put on a pair that had holes in the heels, hoping I wouldn’t fall in the alley and be found with these on!
I don’t know why it is so fascinated with my stockings or even why it is finding any Kleenex that has fallen. The other day it got into a large, empty 7-Up box. I didn’t know it until I saw a tail wiggling through the hole. It did get turned around and found its way out! I still have to watch when I go outside that it doesn’t go outside. From never seeing snow, it did get out one day and the chase was on!
Did you celebrate Valentine’s Day or was it just another day?! I did buy some valentine cards for some of the kids and some candy but hid them so no one else would find them before the day!
The boys’ basketball game with Unity Christian was one that was unbelievable. That team had 12 (3- pointers)! When their score was 28, the 24 points of this score were from 8 (3-pointers)! We did lose the game.
The boys played the Stars and I hadn’t heard of this team before. It was Sioux City North. I didn’t know we ever played them before. We lost the game and looking over their ratings—they had more losses than we did, so I bet they were happy they won.
The listings for Basketball pair-offs are out. It seems that all those that have not gotten many wins are paired up with a team with not many losses. In the end, it will be the ones with many wins that will end up on the winning end. (It would be nice to see two teams that were evenly matched as far as losses, play each other—but that will not happen.)
The hot topic of the voucher bit has some that voted for this now having second thoughts. One person representing our district thinks that special needs children should have a choice to go to a private school but will any private school take on a child that needs extra attention? Another one is concerned that some don’t have to abide by Iowa ‘s testing students. Are there some that test like the Public School does to make sure the student is where he/she should be or else needs extra help? Now the other side says that if they wanted to be concerned, they should have made this known before the signing of it.
Are you tired of these television ads stating that “sooner or later” you will have a breakdown and should take care of it before it happens? Like anything else, call your mechanic (if it be for a vehicle) or someone who sells appliances and ask them if they will take one of these policies. Chances are they won’t as they want exactly what they are asking for unless it is a person that is desperate to do a repair job. It is like anything else—they will advise you to take a Care Credit card. This card pays them exactly what they want and you have to make installments on it. Don’t sign anything until checking it out.
This Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday. Have a good time celebrating whether your team wins or not.
Remember in your thoughts and prayers those who have lost loved ones to death, have had their lives changed, have health problems some of which are terminal, have a job and are still trying to make ends meet; help those who desire wants rather than needs that prestige isn’t everything; and be with those who are still trying to shorten the distance between family/friends to build a bridge instead of a wall. Count your blessings.
I will close with this quote from George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950), Irish playwright, “Better keep yourself clean and bright; you are the window through which you must see the world.”
