If you have waited to clean your basement, attic, or the house in general, the time is to do it now! City wide clean up day is October 10. If you don’t know what can or cannot be taken away that day, call City Clerk for information on this.
This was a very short meeting. Under consent business, the agenda was enacted by one motion. There was no separate discussion on those items unless a request was made prior to the time the Council voted on the motion.
Items under this Consent Agenda included the following: (1) Approve City Council Minutes. (2) Approve Bills. (3) Approve Resolution #22-41, “Transfer of Funds”. (4) Approve Resolution # 22-42, “A Resolution Approving Donation to Marcus Economic Development Corporation (MEDCO) for Economic Development. This donation was $10,000. (5) Approve KRP Audit agreement. (6) Approve MMCRU parade permit. (7) Approve Planning and Zoning recommendation to approve the Marcus Historical Society sign reimbursement that was $240. (8) Approve Jeff’s Foods Class # Liquor License.
Moving on to Ordinances: Approved was the first reading of Ordinance #354, “An Ordinance Amending the Code of the Ordinances of the City of Marcus, Iowa Concerning Garbage Contracting”. The Council approved waiving the second and third reading of Ordinance #354.
Public Works was reported by Doug Dreckman. The swimming pool is to be winterized. The streets of Barnes and Locust had some cement work done on them that is now complete. The intersection of Holmes and Regan Streets will have repairs starting the beginning of October. The water towel project is finished and resurfacing of alleys is completed. Starting September 19, hydrants will be flushed.
Police Chief Flikeid gave the Council reports on arrests as well as an update of the K9 fundraiser for the police dog. Jackie Stephens is a part-time officer that has a K9 dog named Valcun that is an award-winning K9. Valcun and Stephens are going to compete at Nationals Trails in the next few weeks. He has put up a couple of posters telling the need of donations of which he has already gotten some donations.
City Clerk reviewed annual reports to the Council. These reports were (1) Annual Finance Report; (2) Annual Urban Renewal Report; and (3) Street Finance Report.
The Marcus City Council met Monday September 12, 2022 at 5 p.m. with Mayor Bunt presiding. Council members present were Ebert, Jenness, Schmillen, and Frangione. Absent was Enneking.
