Marcus Public Library Summer Readers Win Prizes

Marcus Public Library challenged its young readers to “Read Beyond the Beaten Path” and read books other than what they were used to reading. At the beginning of the summer program (June 8) they were given a colorful paper listing 12 books that could be read in this program. Any book on Sports, History, Arts & Crafts, Science Fiction, Mystery, Graphic Novels, Fantasy, cooking, Theater, Nature, Romance or Horror could qualify. After reading these, they could return the sheet to the Library by July 8 to be entered to win a PRIZE!
And, there were prizes that any kid would love to have! There were (2) Leo Shark Lego’s, (2) Mini Lanterns, (3) Friends Waterfall Camp Lego’s, a Spaceship Lego for younger kids, a Doll complete with accessories, Circus Posters and Circus Tickets available. What a list for those who had completed the Summer Reading Program!
Arriving at the Library on Wednesday (July 21), did we see what we thought we saw!? There was a goat and a rabbit in a cage on the Library lawn. Mackenzie Meyer and grandmother, Janet brought them for the kids going to the drawing to see. Once inside the Library we saw the many prizes aforementioned on a table just waiting for a name to be drawn and taken home.
The time was 1:30 p.m. and there were only two boys, Ethan and Elliot Dreckman and their mother there. Ten minutes later, it was decided that the drawing should go on even if there were still only the two boys there. They were helpful in drawing out names while the Librarian taped it to the prize drawn for.
Winners of prizes were Hailey Schmillen, Kallie Stodden, Avery Priebe, Allie Priebe, Mia Erdman, Ethan Dreckman, Elliot Dreckman, and a “Charlie” with no last name but a telephone number! The doll went to Olivia Mahoney. She also received a Circus Poster and Circus Tickets. All the Circus Posters and Circus Tickets found a home with the “Summer Reading Winners”!
The goat and rabbit were still waiting outside for kids to see them. Elliot and Ethan Dreckman were still the only ones there but enjoyed petting the goat and talking to the rabbit.
Thanks to the Meyer’s for bringing the animals and to the Library for the neat prizes given to the Summer Readers.
