Beef Quality Assurance Transportation Workshop for Cattle
Cattle transporters are reminded that they can certify or renew their certification at a Beef Quality Assurance Transportation (BQAT) workshop on July 12 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the ISU Extension and Outreach Clay County office in Spencer.
“Commercial truckers and producers who haul cattle with their own semi or trailer are required to present a current BQAT certificate at major packing plants before the cattle may be unloaded,” said Beth Doran, local beef specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach.
The objectives for the training are human safety, animal comfort and protocols to prevent cattle shrink, bruising and stress – all of which benefit the beef industry.
The workshop is free, but registration should be made by July 8. To register, please call the ISU Extension and Outreach Clay County office at 712-262-2264.
Future BQAT workshops will be offered Aug. 9 at Orange City and Nov. 29 at Cherokee. If unable to attend an in-person training, BQAT is available online at https://www.bqa.org/programs.
