By Emma Vasher
This week we are featuring Makenzie Meyer for our senior spotlight. Makenzie lives north of Marcus with her dad, Mike, and her mom, Becky. Makenzie also has an older brother Colton. After Makenzie graduates this year she is going to go to Wayne State in Wayne, Nebraska. She is going to major in Skilled Trades Education (shop teacher).
Makenzie kept herself busy during school as she is involved in many things. She was in volleyball all four years of high school, she lettered her senior year, received the E. Wayne Cooley Award, and was a team captain. She was in basketball all four years and lettered twice, she was in NHS for three years. Makenzie was in FFA from 4th grade to 12th grade, Club Secretary Junior year, first female President senior year, received gold for photography and promotional bulletin board at the state level, and the Promotional Board competed at Nationals. Makenzie was in choir for two years and lettered as a freshman, she was also in band for two years. Makenzie doesn’t have any favorite memories from high school, she just liked all the time she got to spend with her classmates. In Makenzie’s free time she loves to show livestock including goats and cattle. Some advice Makenzie would give to the underclassmen is to put your whole heart into what you are doing, all the stress and anxiety that comes up along the way will all be worth it in the end when you reach your goals. Makenzie never really had an outside job during high school, her job was always to take care of her farm animals and her school activities. Makenzie doesn’t have a favorite school lunch because she brings lunch from home every day. Makenzie’s biggest accomplishments are being the first female president for Skills USA, getting gold in Skills USA, and receiving her FFA Iowa Degree. Makenzie’s biggest pet peeve is when people don’t try. Makenzie likes to listen to any music that is country and her biggest fears are clowns, open water, and the dark. Makenzie’s favorite year of high school was her junior year because they went to state in basketball, she received her FFA Iowa Degree, she got two gold medals in state for Skills USA, competed at the national level for Skills USA, and she had a great year for showing livestock and judging season. Makenzie wants to be remembered as a hard working person who put her whole heart into everything she did.
