Marcus City Council Winds Down Year 2021

Monday’s City Council meeting was a short one with not much on the agenda. Laura Letsche was approved to have another five-year term on the Planning and Zoning Board.
The First reading of Ordinance 352, “An Ordinance Adding New Paragraphs to a Subsection within the Recreational Parking Prohibition” was read and approved. It was then approved to waive the second and third reading of Ordinance 352.
Resolution 21-45. “A Resolution Transferring Funds” was approved.
Resolution 21-46, “A Resolution setting Salaries for Appointed Officers and Employees of the City of Marcus, Iowa” was approved.
A budget workshop was set for January 3, 2022 at 5 p.m.
An update for The Hawkeye Amended Ownership for Class C Liquor License was approved.
The Council approved the Marcus Community Center Class C Liquor License.
New signage along the trail by the Snowmobile Club will be posted as soon as they can get the new signs (they have had trouble getting these new signs).
There were no reports from the City Attorney or Public Works. There was some discussion on how vehicle speeding on some streets is not being enforced. It was asked if another policeman was needed since it appears nothing is being done about this issue.
Police Chief Brian Flikeid told the Council he has been working on arrest warrants.
On November 5, 2021, Christopher Cosgrove, 37 years old of Marcus was sentenced in Cherokee County District Court. Cosgrove entered a plea during probation revocations proceedings and was sentenced to prison for a term not to exceed 10 years. Cosgrove was originally charged with Delivery of Methamphetamine.
On November 29, 2021 at approximately 3 p.m., the Marcus Police Department arrested ReAnn Jackson, 32 years old of Marcus. Jackson was taken into custody without incident on a warrant issued for her arrest out of Plymouth County for Failure to Appear, original charges; interference with Official Acts, Failure to Financial Liability and Operating a Non-Registered Vehicle. Custody of Jackson was turned over to the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office who transported her to the Plymouth County Jail. Jackson was held in lieu of $1,500 bond.
The short meeting was adjourned and then recognitions were acknowledged. There were two certificates of appreciation given to out-going Mayor Hansen and Councilman Klassen for their years of service to Marcus. Mayor Hansen has been here four years and Councilman Klassen for ten years of service.
City Clerk Harvey swore in next mayor Pat Bunt as well as those Councilmen who will begin their term in January, 2022.
The regular meeting of the Marcus City Council was held on Monday, December 13, 2021 at 5 p.m. with Mayor Hansen presiding. Council persons in attendance were Ebert, Klassen, and Frangione. Absent: Jenness and Enneking.
