By Brayden Dirks
This week for the senior spotlight we will be showcasing Mya Holmes. Mya lives in Marcus with her parents Jerome and Heidi; and has a brother, Jerome. She plans on going to Southwest Missouri State University for business and marketing.
Mya is a very vibrant, talkative person and has been involved in many things. She’s been in softball, track, basketball, cheer, competitive cheer, speech, and Royals Impact group. She was on All-State cheer her senior year and has had several Division I scores in competitive cheer. Mya was also an All-Conference Honorable Mention in softball her sophomore season. She says her biggest accomplishment in high school was going to state basketball her junior year. Her favorite year of high school was sophomore year because there are low expectations and that it was a great year for basketball. Mya’s favorite memory from high school was junior prom and after prom because of the music and being with friends.
Outside of school, Mya enjoys hanging out with friends and relaxing. She has worked as a lifeguard at the Marcus Pool throughout high school, and has also worked at the hotel in town. Her favorite movies are Crazy Rich Asians and Spiderman: Far From Home, and her favorite school lunch is crispitos. Mya’s biggest fear is what’s in the dark and her biggest pet peeve is when people don’t blow their nose.
Mya’s advice to underclassmen is to try your best on every assignment you do and focus on what you can do to make yourself better. She wants to be remembered as someone who brought life to every room she walked into. Later in life, Mya wants to move from Iowa, have a family, and be filthy rich.
