Royals Wrap up Football Season
MMCRU played their week 9 game against the Lawton-Bronson Eagles last Friday. The Royals were fresh off their first win of the season against the Sidney Cowboys. The Eagles started their season 2-0 with wins over Akron-Westfield and Missouri Valley, but went on a 6 game losing streak since then.
Lawton came out with a spread offence to start the game, but failed to pass against the Royals defence. MMCRU also had a hard time moving the ball early against an intense Eagles pass rush. After punting on their first drive the Eagles changed up the offence. Sophomore Quarterback Braden Heiss lined up under center in a double wing formation. The Eagles went into a heavy run game for the rest of the half. Senior Aziah Ashley would carry the ball 8 times for 75 yards and a touchdown. Senior Matt Peters ran 13 times for 52 yards and a touchdown.

MMCRU got into a rhythm in the second quarter. Down by 6, Sophomore quarterback Jonah Petersen stayed in the pocket and delivered a perfect throw to Freshman Jace Colling, who took it 73 yards for a Royals touchdown. The Extra point was good by Senior Brenin Stodden and the Royals led 7-6.
Lawton looked to respond right before half. Heiss completed a curl route to the middle of the field, but the Eagles pulled out the ¨Music City Miracle’’, pitching the ball around the field until Aziah Ashley got his hands on it and took it 75 yards to the endzone.
The Royals found some more scoring opportunities. Down 18-7 in the 4th quarter Brenin Stodden drilled a 25 yard field goal. Stodden also caught a 21 yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to make the score 24-17.

Senior Carson Pick forced a fumble with less than a minute on the clock, but the Royals offence couldn’t pull off the miracle comeback. Lawton went home with the win, 24-17.
Sophomore Jonah Petersen got his 4th start at Quarterback for the Royals. Petersen completed 12 of his 26 passes for 195 yards and 2 touchdowns. Eban Hicks led the team in rushing, with 17 carries for 66 yards. Senior Keegan Stevens led in receptions, catching 5 passes for 48 yards.
The Eagles sophomore quarterback Braden Heiss went 11 for 22 passing for 212 yards.
The loss brings the Royals season to a close at 1-8.
