Environmental Science
Takes Field Trip
By Blaine Wicks
Last Thursday the MMCRU High School environmental science class went to tour a water treatment facility in Cherokee. The class got to see how our water was treated. It went from stage to stage and makes sure we can reuse water and keep the cycle flowing. This field trip can help students understand how this facility helps with waste and reusing water.
Class instructor Amanda Lynch said, “They got to see and learn about how sewage and waste water is separated, disinfected, and finally used. Fun fact: the Cherokee Water Plant processes a million gallons of water each day!”
Student Paul Schmidt said, “It was fun being out of school for a few periods and learning about our sewers and water treatment. Even though it smelled really bad, it was still a fun trip.”
