The MMCRU Royals girls’ track team travelled to Holstein on Monday, April 12. Teams participating in the meet were Ridge-View coming in at first place with 196 points, West Monona taking second place with 109 points, Sioux Central taking third with 104 points, in fourth place was Alta-Aurelia with 69 points, fifth place was MMCRU with 51 points, River Valley taking sixth with 23 points, in seventh place with 20 points was Storm Lake St. Marys, and in eight place with a total of seven points was Ridge View JV.
MMCRU had a rough meet with only one girl placing first, Hannah Neddermeyer in the high jump with a jump of 4-11.
I asked Coach Boekhout and discus thrower Mya Holmes for their opinions on how the meet went. Mya stated, “The meet on Monday I think went pretty well. In most of our field events we had our personal records, which is great for the team. It was a little cold and breezy for our liking, but overall great competition and a good meet!”
Coach Boekhout stated, “Conditions were really tough at the Holstein Relays as the temperatures hovered in the low 40s, while the winds were gusting up to 40 miles per hour. Everybody toughed it out and we ended up with numerous season bests. Hannah made huge strides in the high jump, exceeding her PR by three inches and jumping 4-11 to get the gold. Our discus throwers, Rachael and Mya, also both PRed in the tough winds. Finally, our distance girls, Mykin and Alyson, keep dropping time off their races every night. Our middle distance girls also worked hard, but the winds were tough to deal with in the backstretch. We’ll keep chipping away!”
