Personal Mention

Well, we had more snow this past week! We get spoiled by good weather and then more snow comes. This time it was warm enough to be slushy. Most schools were two hours late until they decided to have no school at all. One of the television reporters said he had never had to scoop such heavy snow as that Monday. Our garbage can was pushed over to the mailbox and laid on its side. It had some help in getting to this position. There was a mailbox out in the southside that didn’t make it. When the snow is halfway between the street and the sidewalk, it has to have had some help in getting there and not by nature.
Tuesday morning we found it had snowed overnight. This time it didn’t need to be scooped as it melted on the sidewalks. Rain was predicted for the rest of the week with Saturday being the warmest with 60 degree temperatures.
I do want to make a correction in last week’s paper. Fred and Bonnie Wilkens were brother and sister-in-law of Ruth (Wilkens) Harms.
I spoke to Lois Allen (Scott’s mother) on Sunday. Two weeks ago, she had had her appendix taken out at age 91! I guess age makes no difference when the appendix goes bad. She is slowly getting back to her normal routine. She was an artist teacher and still has that talent. She likes to send cards that she has used her talent on. They are beautiful. I have a friend that sends cards that she “stamps”. Both of these women’s cards sent to me are put away and enjoyed several times when I go through the box.
Have you received your last government check yet? I know one store that is sold out on big screen televisions_50 inch and larger. I would hope that these buyers have their rent and utilities paid up. If not, then why the television buy? Is it a want or a need? So, what if a friend or neighbor has a big television_is this what the check is for?
Steve and I were going to the Royals Scholarship Dinner on Saturday night. No one else in my household wanted to go_they don’t know what they missed out on! I started to get the MMCRU School article written up before we went to school when I discovered I couldn’t get into any of my files. Trouble with a computer leaves me a “wreck”. The “ESB” was missing and that was the reason I couldn’t get into any file. Every time I tried to save what I had already written up, there would be a notice that it couldn’t be saved and to “cancel” and it would go back to the beginning. “Cancel” never happened! All I could get was my recent documents that I couldn’t even open up. The two in my household think I am responsible for anything that happens to the computer and refuse to help. (Personally, I think they really don’t want to admit that they don’t know how to find out what is wrong.) Steve came down and he couldn’t find out what the trouble was.
I called Stodden’s and Tim was at work. I couldn’t get into a file to get his cell number so Sally had it. I printed off what I had already done just in case all that would be lost. Then as this page was printing off, a sign came on the computer that said the printer wasn’t in compliance with the computer and to shut off the printer. I let it continue to print and didn’t shut anything off. I had a half hour to get to the grocery store and still be at school before 5:30.
We did have a good time at the Dinner, but I still had to come home to a mess until Tim could come after midnight (after his work). When he came he finally found out what the problem was and suggested that the computer probably needed a rest! I informed him that it had had 24 hours before I started on it on Saturday afternoon. In the Sunday Sioux City Journal there was an article on “rebooting the computer” every so often. I guess it does make since about “resting”. I worked until well after midnight to get most of the articles done.
It doesn’t seem possible that Easter Sunday is two Sunday’s off. The MMCRU Schools are off from March 31 through April 5.
Speaking of Easter, I’m going to include article given to me concerning the meaning of Easter. What is Easter? It’s not about the eggs to hunt. It’s not about a bunny. It’s not about brand new clothes or candy as sweet as honey.
On this day many years ago a man named Jesus Christ upon a cross for you and me gladly gave His life. Not for sins that He had done or crimes He must repay. He did it all for you and me. For our sins He died that day.
But that’s not the end of Jesus Christ. They put Him in a grave. But three days later He rose again. Our sin debt had finally been paid.
So this Easter as you hunt for eggs, dressed up in brand new clothes_don’t think about the Easter Bunny. Think about why Christ arose.
We have had much sadness this past year. Thad Rasmussen (53) passed away on March 12 from cardiac arrest. Both his parents (Boze and Linda) and a brother, Terry preceded him in death. May memories of him be of comfort to his family and may he rest in peace until we meet again.
I see where there will be a drive-thru supper benefit for Chris Jonson and wife, Jamie Johnson. Jamie has had an organ transplant. The Marcus Fire Department is hosting this.
