Sow, Grow, Eat and Keep
Renee Sweers, Human Sciences Specialist, Nutrition and Wellness
“Sow, Grow, Eat and Keep” provides information to gardeners of all ages and skill levels. There are 18 weeks of information and videos posted online with topics including: garden preparation; container gardening; cool weather crops, such as lettuce, spinach, and peas; strawberry freezer jam; scouting for garden pests; garden care basics; and produce safety. Plus, learn about honey, growing herbs, raspberries, and apples! The short videos provide timely information related to growing, preparing and preserving your own food.
Gardening and growing one’s own food provide many benefits, such as, increased Vitamin D and sun exposure; decreased risk of dementia; improved quality of life; and increased physical activity which can help to reduce stress. Pulling weeds, reaching for tools, twisting, and bending can all help build strength, stamina, and flexibility.
